Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your cry has been heard and I have read the weight of what you are carrying. The anxiety that will not leave you, the loss of weight, the rent arrears, the wrong done to you by those who manage your housing, going without food for two weeks while your health declines, reaching out again and again to churches and pantries and finding no help, feeling completely alone and feeling your faith grow thin. This is heavy suffering on this physical plain and it is right to bring it before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.
Do not let this suffering persuade you to despair. There is a word that says, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall, and also, shall not he who falls rise again. Lift up the hands which hang down and the feeble knees. Awake, you who sleep, and arise. Many who were sick have become healthy, and many who were healthy have through neglect grown weak. The enemy never despairs of our destruction, so we should not despair of our salvation. You have fallen under a great burden, but falling is not the end when God is the one who raises up.
Your bodily health matters to God. We are taught to attend to the body with care, as Paul urged Timothy to care for his stomach and his frequent infirmities out of love. Teachers and all the faithful stand in need of mercy, and that mercy includes caring for the body God gave you. Hunger and thirst and anxiety do real harm to the body. Even the Scriptures show that the life of faith can include hunger and nakedness and having no certain dwelling place, yet they also teach that going without nourishment for so long breaks down the body more quickly than many realize. You need food and medical care without delay. Going two weeks without food is dangerous and your declining health is a sign to seek help at once.
Please, for the sake of your life and health, seek immediate help today. If you can, go to an emergency department or urgent care, or call emergency services in your area. Go again to a food pantry, a church, a local charity, or a government social services office and tell them plainly that you have not eaten in two weeks and have lost much weight and need food and medical attention now. For the rent arrears and the fraud you describe, seek local legal aid, a tenant advice service, or a housing charity that can review your case and speak for you to the property management. Keep a written record of what has happened. Even when you have been turned away before, keep reaching out, for we are told not to grow weary in doing good, and to keep seeking those who can help. If you have even one person you can trust, a neighbor, a pastor, a family member, let them know you are alone and need someone to go with you to get help.
God sees you and has not forgotten you. He feeds the birds of the air and He is able to provide for you. He is the physician who heals those sick with many kinds of affliction, and He shows us examples of those who were deeply burdened and were quickly set free when they came to Him. He does not cast away those who come to Him in weakness. His mercy is greater than our anxiety.
I pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, have mercy on this your child who is anxious, hungry, unwell, and alone. Provide daily bread, restore health, make a way through the debt and the wrong that has been done, and open doors for practical help and shelter. Lift up what is cast down, strengthen feeble knees, and renew faith that is dwindling. Let this one know that you are near, that you hear, and that you are able to deliver. Give wisdom to find advocates and protectors, and surround this life with people who will help and not turn away. In Jesus name, amen.
Keep asking, keep knocking, and keep caring for your body as you seek the Lord. You are not forgotten. If your anxiety or despair grows very heavy, please reach out immediately to a trusted person, a medical professional, or a crisis helpline in your country. Continue to bring your needs before God who is compassionate and able to restore.
