Your cry of weariness has come up before the Lord, and He has heard the voice of your supplication. To be tired of fighting battles alone is to be brought to the very place where prayer becomes most precious, for there is a ladder between earth and heaven by which our wants are carried up to God and blessings are brought down again.
You ask, am I praying wrong, or is what I ask not possible. Hear then what the Scripture teaches concerning unanswered prayer. Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial. God's long dated bills will be punctually honored. Unanswered petitions are not unheard. God keeps a file for our prayers. They are not blown away by the wind, they are treasured in the King's archives, and there is a registry in the court of Heaven where every prayer is recorded. Your sighs and your tears are not fruitless.
Yet we must also search our hearts, for sometimes the cause of unanswered prayer may lie in something connected with sin. It may be a Fatherly chastisement for offenses, or an admonition against sin harbored, and sometimes there may be great sin in the prayer itself when we pray without fervency or with self conceit. No prayer is likely to bring down an immediate answer if it is not a fervent prayer, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much, and we must get rid of the icicles that hang about our lips. At other times the Lord withholds an immediate answer not to punish but to strengthen you. He is strengthening your muscles and tendons and sinews by the arduous exercise of unanswered prayer that you may be finely useful in the future. This is the victory which overcomes the world, even your faith.
Therefore set your face unto the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplication. That setting of the face is expressive of resolute purpose, firm determination, undivided attention and fixed resolute perseverance. Cling to Christ and say to Him with that holy boldness which faith gives, I will not let You go except You bless me. Christ loves a great faith. He deserves great faith and when He gets it He is highly pleased. Faith glorifies Him, faith trusts Him, faith lives upon Him, and because faith highly esteems Christ, Christ highly esteems faith. And if your faith feels small, be comforted, for sincere prayer may often be very feeble to us but it is always acceptable to God. Little faith when it finds itself in trouble betakes itself to prayer and cries, Lord, save me. The Holy Spirit is the Creator not of the littleness of our faith but of our faith, be it ever so little, and our Lord acknowledges it.
In this confidence let us bring your household before the throne of grace, pleading only through Jesus Christ our Lord, for there is salvation in no other.
We pray for your son, that the Lord would convict him of the sin of lying, for lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, and grant him a love of truth, diligence in labor, and faithfulness to pay what he owes, for the righteous desire to owe no man anything, and that his life may be ordered aright under the hand of God.
We pray for your daughter who labors in ###, that the Lord in His providence would open a door for honest and better employment if it be His will, and give her wisdom and industry to meet her obligations for rent and debts in due season, and to seek first the kingdom of God in where she dwells.
We pray for your daughter who bears the burden of children, that God would pour out grace to help her children succeed, to provide for them financially, emotionally and physically according to His provision, to put away anger and to speak with gentleness and patience, and to care for her own body and soul as the temple of God, seeking His direction concerning her dwelling in ### or elsewhere.
We pray for your nephew, that the Great Physician would heal him from his surgery, and bless him financially, physically and mentally, restoring him to strength for useful service.
We pray for your grandsons, that the Lord would keep them from the paths of trouble and set their feet in honest work, that one may find a good and upright calling and be fitted for it by trade school, and the other may find profitable labor and return to college if it be for his good, and that the younger ones may stay in school, labor diligently, achieve their goals and build a better future not upon the sand of this world but upon the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom.
We pray for your granddaughter, that she may be given a sound mind to focus upon herself in modesty and sobriety, upon her schooling and her health and hygiene, and to pursue higher education with diligence and purity.
We pray for your little grandson whom you long to see, that the Lord would keep him safe and secure under His wing until you may embrace him again according to His mercy.
And for yourself, who asks for peace and strength and happiness and financial blessing and success, we ask that the Lord would give you that peace which passes understanding, strength for each day, joy in Christ rather than in circumstances, and such provision as His wisdom sees best, for He knows what you have need of before you ask Him.
Continue in prayer, be diligent in hearing the Word, for faith comes by hearing, and be much in private prayer, for that stirs up the fire and makes it burn more brilliantly. The good work which God has begun in you will be performed until the day of Jesus Christ, and He who has taught you to pray will not leave your prayers unanswered in the way that is best.
May the Lord hear your voice and answer in His time and for His glory, and may you see manifold and manifest answers to prayer to His praise. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope we ask it, Amen.
