Your heart's desire and prayer that they may be saved is a most Christlike burden, and we join you in it before the throne of grace. It is a precious thing to carry another soul before the Lord, and to plead for those who are in his life as well as for him, that if they are yet without Christ they may be brought to Him.
We pray with you that the Lord will be pleased to show them that Christ is salvation itself, not a mere help toward it. As Simeon took Him up in his arms and said, My eyes have seen Your salvation, so we pray that their eyes may be opened to see Jesus as He is, the only Savior, for there is salvation in none other. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, and the Lord Himself cries, Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. This is the common salvation which springs from the same divine grace, freely given to all who believe, whether they be great or small, for He has concluded all in unbelief that He might have mercy upon all.
This salvation is without money and without price. It is not by works or ceremonies, nor by gold or silver, nor by any merit of our own, but by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. With the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. We pray that He who loved us and gave Himself for us will grant to this one and to those connected to him that true faith which looks to Christ alone and rests upon His finished work.
Continue to bring them before the Lord. Never cease to weep for them until they have ceased to sin, never cease to hope for them until they have ceased to live, never cease to pray for them until you yourself cease to breathe. And as you pray, seek also to put the gospel before them in love, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Tell them plainly that pardon is to be had for every sin, for the sins of youth and age, and that whoever will may come and take of the water of life freely.
We join our prayer with yours now, that the Father would in His mercy draw each of these souls unto His Son, grant them repentance and faith, and make them new creatures in Christ, to the praise of His glorious grace. May the Lord do this for His own name's sake, and may you be comforted to see fruit from the travail of your intercession. In Jesus Christ's name we ask it, amen.
