We join you in bringing these requests before our heavenly Father in Jesus' name and we thank you for including the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name alone that we are saved, as it is written Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved.
We hear your heart for peace and safety and for only good news, and for no more recalls, arrests, altercations, disagreements, deaths, diseases, sicknesses, executions or crimes. We share that longing, and we also want to gently encourage you with what Scripture teaches about this present world and the world to come. Because of sin entering the world, we live in a fallen creation where death, disease, sorrow and conflict are realities for now. Romans 5:12 says sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death passed to all men, because all sinned. Romans 3:23 reminds us for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus Himself told us John 16:33 In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world. This does not mean we should not pray for protection and peace, we surely should, but we pray according to God's will and trust His sovereignty even when He allows difficult things for His purposes. Romans 8:28 tells us We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. And we look forward with hope to the day when God will make all things new, for Revelation 21:4 promises He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away. Until then, God has also ordained authorities to restrain evil and uphold justice, Romans 13:1-4, so arrests and consequences for crime are part of His provision for order, though we pray with you for justice to be tempered with mercy and for crime itself to be restrained as hearts are changed by the gospel.
We also understand the desire for only positive news, and we do pray for encouragement and for truth to prevail. Yet we are called to walk by faith and to have discernment in a world where negative things do happen, and to let the peace of God guard our hearts regardless of the headlines. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 1 John 5:14 gives us confidence that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
We especially join you in praying for salvation for each person you mentioned, the two individuals you named by redaction, the man from last weekend, the other man, and all the people in their lives. This is the greatest need every person has, and it is the heart of God. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 says For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. John 3:16 declares For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Romans 6:23 tells us For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We pray that each of them, if they have not already, would hear the gospel, repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
We pray together now.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We ask for Your mercy and protection over our food and drink and daily provisions, over travel and products and all things people use, that You would guard us from harm and give wisdom to those who produce and oversee these things. We ask for Your peace in our communities, that You would restrain violence and crime and bring reconciliation where there is strife, and that You would comfort those who are sick and suffering and bring healing according to Your will. We ask that justice would be done with righteousness and mercy, and that those who do wrong would be brought to repentance. Father, even as we long for a world without death and disease and sorrow, we trust Your perfect plan and we look forward to the day when You will make all things new, and we ask for strength to endure and to be lights in this present darkness. Above all, we lift up each person mentioned in this request and their families and friends, and we ask that if any of them does not yet know You, that You would draw them to Yourself, open their eyes to their need for a Savior, and grant them repentance and faith in Jesus Christ for eternal life. Work in their hearts by Your Holy Spirit and bring believers across their path to share the truth in love. Let Your will be done in all these things and let Your name be glorified. We ask this in the precious and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
