The Drunkard’s Woe
Strong drink destroys reputation, health, and soul, so you must turn away before it captures you completely.
The Vacant Chair
Empty chairs remind us of loved ones lost and call us to live in a way that honors their memory.
Cloaks for Sin
Sin hides behind many disguises but God sees through them all and calls us to seek His true righteousness.
We join you in bringing these burdens before our Heavenly Father in Jesus' name and we thank you for seeking Him, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the throne of grace. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We are grateful you have called on His name.

We hear your desire to have self control over your eyes and to avoid staring at people, even from the corner of your eye. This is a good and honorable desire, for God calls us to respect others and to exercise discipline over our bodies. We want to encourage you that God gives us the fruit of self control Galatians 5:22-23 and He calls us to set no vile thing before our eyes Psalm 101:3. To look at others in a way that makes them uncomfortable or that feeds an unhealthy curiosity does not reflect the love and respect we are called to show. We pray for you to walk in purity and consideration for others, and we encourage you to practice taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. When you feel the temptation to stare, we encourage you to intentionally turn your gaze, to pray in that moment, and to focus your mind on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely and of good report Philippians 4:8.

We must also lovingly rebuke and correct part of your request concerning dangerous animals. We understand that fear of dangerous animals is real and that you may desire safety for yourself and others, but we cannot agree in prayer for all dangerous animals to be killed, made extinct, and for their homes to be permanently destroyed. This does not align with the will and character of God revealed in Scripture. God created the animals, both great and small, and saw that it was good Genesis 1:25, and He sustains them. The earth is the Lord's with all its fullness Psalm 24:1 and we are called to be faithful stewards of His creation, not destroyers of it. God cares for His creatures, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the livestock on a thousand hills Psalm 50:10 and The heavens declare the glory of God Psalm 19:1 through the diversity of what He has made, How many are your works, Yahweh In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your riches Psalm 104:24. A righteous man respects the life of his animal Proverbs 12:10. To pray for extinction and destruction of habitats would be to pray against God's good design and the balance He established. Instead we will pray with you for protection, wisdom, and peace regarding dangerous animals, that God would keep you and others safe, give wisdom to authorities and communities to live wisely alongside creation, and give you peace from fear, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self control 2 Timothy 1:7.

We also join you in praying for cleansing of your memory from the image you saw on YouTube and from the title and sounds of a song that troubles you, and for deliverance from demonic influence. God knows how persistent unwanted thoughts and images can be, and He desires to renew our minds. We encourage you to not dwell on what you want to forget by fighting it in your own strength alone, but to actively fill your mind with God's Word and worship, for whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8. We are called to be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2. If there are demonic oppressions, Scripture assures us that we are to Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7 and greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. We encourage you to guard what you watch and listen to, to use filters and accountability, to replace YouTube browsing with Scripture reading and godly music, and to speak aloud the name of Jesus when tormenting thoughts come.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ. We lift up our brother before You and ask for Your grace to help him walk in self control over his eyes and his thoughts. Give him strength to turn his gaze with respect and love for others, to take every thought captive to Christ, and to fix his mind on what is pure and pleasing to You. Lord, we ask that You renew his mind and wash his memory. We ask You to gently remove the lingering image from YouTube and the title and sounds of that song that trouble him. Cleanse his thoughts, fill him with Your peace, and let Your Word dwell richly in him. We pray for deliverance from every demonic influence and oppression, we resist the enemy in Jesus' name, and we declare that You are greater and that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Cover him with Your protection and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. And Father, we pray regarding his fear of dangerous animals, we ask not for their destruction but for Your protection over him and all people, for wisdom for mankind to be good stewards of Your creation, and for perfect love to cast out fear. Help him to trust that You are his refuge and strength. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We are glad you shared this with us, and we hear how much you want to honor others and find peace in your mind.

Wanting not to stare, especially from the corner of your eye, shows a considerate heart. When you notice that worry come up, it can help to gently and quietly redirect your gaze without scolding yourself, and simply focus again on what you are doing or on the person you are listening to. Over time that calm, kind redirection can ease the pressure more than trying to watch yourself every moment.

We also hear the fear underneath your prayer about dangerous animals. Wanting to feel safe in this world is understandable, and we can bring that fear to God for His protection and peace, while also trusting His care for all He has made.

Carrying an image from YouTube, a song title and sounds that keep replaying, and feeling harassed in your thoughts is exhausting. Trying hard to force a memory out often makes it stick more. Many find it steadier to notice the thought without fighting it, turn to something present in front of them, spend less time on the YouTube content that triggers it, and bring the moment to God in a simple, honest prayer. If these thoughts stay heavy or distressing, it can help to talk with a trusted pastor or counselor alongside prayer.

Father, we bring our brother to You and ask for Your calm and clear presence with him today. Give him rest from intrusive thoughts and images, help him to know he is seen and loved by You, guide his eyes and heart toward what is good, and fill his mind with Your peace. Keep him safe and lead him in Your wisdom. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest and burdened prayer has been heard, and I desire to deal faithfully and tenderly with it before the Lord.

There are things in your petition which the Lord will gladly answer, and there are things wherein your thoughts are not as His thoughts. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than your ways, and His thoughts than your thoughts. It is a mercy that it is so, for His thoughts toward His people are constant, kind, wise and gracious, and how precious also are His thoughts unto us when we consider them. David could say, when I awake, I am still with Thee, and that nearness to God is the very cure for a wandering mind and a restless eye.

You ask for help to avoid staring at people, even from the corner of the eye. This is a right desire, and it belongs to that sanctification which is the work of God alone. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. You cannot by your own resolve alone govern the eye and the thought, but you must look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone, who has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Take your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. When temptation comes to look where you ought not, turn the eye and the heart at once to Christ. Fill the mind with sacred memories and with Scripture, so that there is little room left for that which would ensnare you. Make it your habit to pray, to fix your mind upon what is pure and lovely and of good report, and to keep company with those who will help you watch unto prayer. The Lord who has found a ransom for sinners will give you strength to walk in holiness, for He makes deliverance effectual and He brings His people forth.

You ask also that all dangerous animals in all countries should be killed and made extinct and their homes destroyed. Here I must speak plainly in love, for this is not a prayer which we can present as you have worded it, nor is it according to the mind of God. The Lord made all creatures, and He saw that they were good, and He still sustains them. They are part of His wise creation, and we are called to be stewards under Him, not destroyers of His handiwork. Your fear of these creatures is real, and the Lord knows it, but we do not ask Him to do evil to His creation to quiet our fear. Rather we ask Him to give you peace, to guard you from harm, to give wisdom to live safely in the world He has made, and to conform your thoughts to His, which are far more merciful and wise than ours. We will pray for your deliverance from fear and for protection where danger is real, but we cannot ask God to bring extinction upon what He has made.

You ask that an image from YouTube and the title and sounds of a song, and all that troubles you as from demons, might be removed from your memory. I understand how haunting memories can be, how Satan insinuates dark and dreadful thoughts and you are haunted by them day after day. There is a deliverance that came when the Lamb was slain, and it is a gift of divine love. God has found a ransom, and therefore deliverance from the pit is certain for those who trust in Christ alone. For salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. If you are troubled by unclean images and sounds, do not merely try to forget them by effort of will, but seek to have your mind washed and renewed. Think much of your Well Beloved and of the place He has gone to prepare for you. Let sacred memories crowd out the corrupt ones. Commit choice verses of Scripture to heart, that when the old image or sound returns you may at once answer it with the Word of God. Sing psalms and hymns in your heart, for the Lord gives songs of deliverance, and He can make the noise of the archers to cease so that you may draw water in peace. And if there is oppression that feels as from the evil one, remember that Christ has already delivered His people from the power of darkness. Flee to Him, confess your need, plead the blood of the ransom, and ask for His keeping power each day.

Let me pray for you as I am permitted to pray according to Scripture.

Heavenly Father, look in mercy upon this soul who desires purity of eye and mind. Grant deliverance from the power of sin and form Christ within. Teach this one to keep the heart with all diligence, to take every thought captive to Christ, and to be still with Thee when waking and when lying down. Take away fear and give a sound mind, and grant protection in a world where dangers remain, according to Thy wise providence. Cleanse the memory by Thy Spirit, remove what defiles, and fill the mind with Thy precious thoughts and with the remembrance of Thy Son who bore the penalty and found a ransom. Keep this soul from the evil one, and cause it to live and declare the works of the Lord. All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our salvation and our hope. Amen.

We have heard your honest prayer and we want to bring it before the Lord with care and truth, asking Him to work in you according to His wisdom and mercy.

You asked for help to avoid staring at people, especially from the corner of the eye. This desire for self control is good. Scripture calls us to lowliness of mind and to keep our thoughts at peace and under the rule of Christ. When two thoughts wrestle within us, one urging us toward what is unhelpful and another urging us toward endurance and purity, we are to let the peace of God act as umpire in our hearts. Pray that He will guard your eyes and your thoughts, and practice turning your gaze away with gentleness and humility, remembering that each person before you is made in the image of God and worthy of respect. With thanksgiving, bring this struggle to God often in prayer, and ask Him to form in you a quiet and sober spirit.

You also prayed that all dangerous animals across the world would be killed, made extinct, and their homes destroyed. We understand this may come from fear or from painful memories, and we do pray for your safety and peace. Yet we cannot ask God to destroy what He has made. From the beginning God created the living creatures and saw that they were good, and He has given humanity a calling to be wise stewards of His creation, not to seek its destruction. Concord and peace do not come from wiping out part of creation, but from learning to live with wisdom and boundaries within it. So instead we pray that God will deliver you from fear, grant you protection where there is real danger, give wisdom to those who live near such animals, and help you to see His power and mercy even over the parts of creation that feel threatening.

You asked that an image from YouTube, a song title and its sounds, and all demonic influence would be permanently removed from your memory. We do pray for the cleansing and guarding of your mind. The peace of God which passes all understanding is able to guard your heart and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We ask the Lord Jesus, who alone saves and who has authority over every evil spirit, to set you free from what troubles you, to wash your mind and fill it with what is pure and good, and to help you walk in freedom. This often happens not by an instant erasing, but by God renewing the mind day by day as we turn to Him with prayer and thanksgiving and turn away from what feeds the distress. It will help to step away from the videos and music that bring these images and sounds back, to replace them with Scripture, prayer, and wholesome things, and to ask a trusted pastor or mature believer to walk with you and pray with you regularly.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You hear us through Jesus Christ Your Son, our only hope and Savior. We ask You to have mercy on this dear one who is struggling. Grant humility and strength to govern the eyes and the thoughts, and let Your peace rule in the heart as an umpire, giving the prize to what is good and putting to shame what is harmful. Guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Take away fear and grant a calm trust in Your care over all creation, teaching us to be good stewards and to rest in Your protection. Cleanse memory of what is unclean or tormenting, break the power of every evil influence by the name of Jesus, and renew the mind with Your truth. Teach this soul to pray with thanksgiving in all things and to know Your nearness. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
