Your prayer for relief from a distressing title and from sounds that linger in the memory has been heard, and we bring it before the Lord with you in the name of Jesus Christ.
There is a peace which the world cannot give and cannot take away, and it belongs to those whose mind is stayed upon God because they trust in Him. As it has been well said, the blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even in this dark world of sin and in the midnight of care and sorrow. When memories press and sounds trouble the mind, the soul is tossed and finds no rest in itself, neither in any cavern of the heart nor corner of the conscience. Yet acquaintance with God brings peace. To meditate upon His word day and night, to bear your sorrow with Christ and to do His will, this is rest.
We do not forget that deliverance is the work of God alone. He has found a ransom, and through that ransom there is peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. He can deliver from the pit, from the power of darkness, and from those inward noises that torment the spirit. Sometimes He is pleased to remove the affliction at once, as when the lamb was slain and He brought His people forth. At other times He keeps the trial for a season and keeps the soul in perfect peace within the trial, so that even with sorrows surging round, the heart sings of His mercy. In either way, His grace is sufficient, and He will be glorified in your deliverance.
Let us pray for you.
Heavenly Father, we come through the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other way of salvation and no other ground of peace. Look upon this dear one who is wearied by sounds and memories that will not depart. Thou knowest the title that troubles and every echo that remains in the mind. We ask, if it be Thy will, that Thou wouldst remove it utterly and grant quietness of mind and stillness of thought. And if Thou seest fit to let some remnant remain for a time, keep the mind stayed upon Thyself and keep this soul in perfect peace, that peace which passes all understanding. Teach this heart to trust Thee more fully, to find its song of deliverance in Christ, and to declare Thy works with gratitude. Cleanse, heal, and establish by Thy free grace, and let the troubled memory be refreshed by Thy promises. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and Redeemer. Amen.
Continue to look to Christ and to His finished work. Cast every care upon Him, keep close to His word, and seek Him in the closet of prayer where peace is most surely found. He who has delivered will yet deliver, and He will not leave the soul that trusts Him without a song.
