We join with you in bringing this burden before our heavenly Father and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus Christ, for it is through Him alone we have access to the throne of grace.
We understand your desire to have these two shows removed from your memory, that the images and thoughts from them would no longer trouble you. We know how deeply what we watch can linger in our minds and affect our hearts, and we hear your longing for peace and a clean mind before the Lord.
The Word of God teaches us that what we set before our eyes matters greatly. I will set no vile thing before my eyes. I hate the deeds of faithless men. They will not cling to me. Psalm 101:3. And we are called to guard our minds by focusing on what honors Him. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8. God does not always remove our memories as if erasing a record, but He does promise to transform and renew us. Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. He also calls us to take an active part in this renewal, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5.
If these shows contained anything impure, violent, ungodly, or troubling, we gently encourage you to turn away from them completely and to not return to them again, and to be careful in the future to guard what you watch and allow into your heart, for from the heart flows all of life. Instead, fill your mind with what is pure and edifying, with Scripture, worship, prayer, and fellowship, so that the good will crowd out what is unwanted.
We pray together for you now.
Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the two shows that are weighing on this mind and heart, and You know the desire to be free from their memory. Lord, we ask You to create in this one a clean heart and to renew a right spirit within, as You promise in Psalm 51:10. Wash away any defilement or disturbance these images have caused. Bring Your perfect peace to this mind, for You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You. Help our dear one to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. Where memories return, give strength to turn immediately to You, to Your Word, and to thoughts that are true and pure and lovely. Fill this heart and mind with Your presence so there is no room for what does not honor You. Heal and restore, Lord, and let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray whenever those memories surface, to speak Scripture aloud, to meditate on the Word daily, and to replace that time and attention with godly pursuits. God is faithful to cleanse and to give you a renewed mind as you walk closely with Him.
