There are memories that torment us and we long for God to simply erase them, yet His way is often deeper healing rather than mere forgetting. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. He does not always remove the memory itself, but He can remove its sting, its power to control us, and renew our minds so we can walk in peace.
The Word encourages us to bring our anxious thoughts to Him and to take our thoughts captive. In Philippians 4:6-7 it says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And in 2 Corinthians 10:5 we are taught to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We also read in Isaiah 43:18-19, Don't remember the former things, and don't consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it will spring out. And in Philippians 3:13-14, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. God calls us to release what is behind not by our own strength to forget, but by pressing forward into what He has for us.
If this memory is tied to a relationship that was outside of God's design for marriage between a man and a woman, or involved intimacy outside of marriage, we gently encourage you to bring that before the Lord in repentance and to seek His forgiveness and cleansing. God is faithful to forgive and to restore purity of heart when we confess. His desire is for courtship that honors Him and leads toward a godly marriage with a fellow believer, and for our minds to be renewed. Romans 12:2 says, Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. As God heals you, He will help you to forgive as He has forgiven you, to release bitterness, and to think on what is pure and good as taught in Philippians 4:8.

Your prayer for relief from memories that trouble you has been heard, and it is good that you have brought it to the heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we may come to God.
There are wounds of the heart that are more painful than wounds of the body, and a broken heart with its haunting memories is one of them. You ask that a name and a remembrance might be taken from you, and that the thought of a child connected with a past relationship might no longer distress you. The Lord knows how these thoughts return and how heavy they lie upon the spirit.
Know this, that the healing which Christ gives is not merely a forgetting as the world forgets, but a cleansing and a binding up of the wound. He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. The very least thing about Christ is healing, as the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. When sin is truly seen and confessed, He first gives forgiveness and then healing follows, for pardon and healing are joined together in His hand. The joy of pardon makes the sorrow of the past to be remembered no more as a burden, though the memory may remain as a sacred warning of grace.
If there has been sin in that former relationship, for the Lord has ordained that intimacy and the bringing forth of children belong within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage, then come plainly to Him and confess it, and trust alone in the blood of Jesus Christ for forgiveness. He will not cast you away. And for the child of whom you speak, commit that little one to His care, praying that the Lord will watch over and keep that life according to His mercy.
Do not seek merely that God would blot out the memory as though it had never been, but pray rather that He would purge the sting from it, take away its power to ensnare you, and give you a new and clean heart that rests in Him. Our memories are leaky toward His mercies and yet cling tightly to our sorrows, but He can change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Bring the name that haunts you and lay it at the foot of the cross, and ask Him to let you remember His lovingkindness instead.

Your prayer has been heard, and I join you in bringing it before our heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have access to God and salvation.
I understand the pain that makes you ask God to take away a name and a memory. When a memory is painful, we long for it to be erased altogether. Yet God often heals us not by simply removing the memory, but by healing the wound within the memory, so that what was once a source of torment loses its power over us. As a physician must sometimes apply a painful remedy for a time so that lasting health may come, so the Lord in His wisdom allows a season of sorrow to work in us a deeper peace and holiness that remains. What is painful is brief, but what is profitable through His grace is lasting.
So let us pray that God would grant you that healing. That He would calm your thoughts, guard your heart, and help you to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to be forgiven where you need forgiveness. That He would cleanse your conscience through the blood of Christ, renew your mind through His Word, and lead you to dwell not on what stirs unrest, but on what is pure and true and gives peace. If this memory is tied to a relationship outside of God's design for marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, where intimacy and living together belong within that covenant, pray that God would lead you into repentance where needed, into purity going forward, and into trust in His good path for you.
