We join with you in this humble confession before our heavenly Father and we thank you for seeking His forgiveness with a sincere heart. Coveting is indeed sin, as the Lord commanded in Exodus 20:17, You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's. The Lord also warns us in Luke 12:15 to beware of covetousness, for a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. To desire what belongs to another or to be discontent with what God has graciously provided turns our eyes away from Him and can lead to further sin, but we rejoice that you have brought this into the light.

We are grateful that you have come in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive forgiveness. As it is written in 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Your confession in Jesus' name is the right and only way to approach the throne of grace.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for Your mercy and grace. We ask You to kindly forgive our brother for coveting and to cleanse his heart from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Help him to turn from comparison and desire for what others have, and teach him the contentment that comes from You alone. We pray You would fill his heart with gratitude and peace, reminding him of Your promise in Hebrews 13:5, Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Help him to learn as Paul did in Philippians 4:11, in whatever state I am, to be content in it, and to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness as Matthew 6:33 teaches, trusting that all needful things will be added. Guard his mind and set his affection on things above, that he may find godliness with contentment to be great gain as in 1 Timothy 6:6. We thank You that Your forgiveness is complete and Your love endures forever. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We are thankful for your honest prayer. Coming to the Father plainly and asking for forgiveness for coveting shows a tender conscience and a desire to stay close to Him, and we appreciate you sharing it with us.

We all know how easily the heart can drift into wanting what others have, especially when life feels stretched or unfair. Naming it before God as you did is the right way to deal with it, not hiding it or carrying it alone.

A simple next step that helps many of us is to catch that wanting in the moment it appears. When you notice the comparison starting, pause for a brief honest prayer, thank God for one or two good gifts He has already placed in your life, and ask Him to steady your desires toward Him. It is a quiet habit that over time helps the heart rest more.

Father, thank You for hearing this child who comes humbly to You. We ask for Your forgiveness through Jesus and for a clean heart. Your brief and penitent prayer has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the throne of grace. To covet is to sin against the tenth commandment, and the honest confession of it is a good and necessary thing before God.

Be assured on the sure ground of Scripture that there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He who blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is a surprising forgiveness and a complete forgiveness. Though you feel the hardness of your heart and the sinfulness of your desire, the word stands fast, there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. This forgiveness is not found within yourself nor earned by your sorrow, but only through Jesus Christ His Son, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and the forgiveness which He gives for Christ's sake is an eternal forgiveness.

Seek then that true repentance which is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. A carnal repentance is of the flesh, but true repentance gives God glory. It stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then grieves all the more that such sin was laid upon the Lord. It is a repentance unto life, practical and lasting, which yields works meet for repentance and looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Ask the Lord to search you and to grant you such a repentance, one that not only weeps for the coveting that is past but turns from present sin because of the love of God who died for you.

And as you turn from coveting, pray that the Lord would cultivate in you that contentment which is one of the flowers of heaven. Remember that a man's contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions. Alexander with all the world at his feet still cried for another world to conquer, while the believer may have peaceful contentment in his breast even while tribulation lasts. In your humble sphere, cultivate contentment. Be not idle, but seek by honest diligence and temperate thrift to raise your position as God allows, yet learn with the apostle in whatsoever state you are, therewith to be content.

We pray for you now, that the God of all grace would assure you of pardon through the blood of Christ, cleanse you from this sin of coveting, and fill your heart with a holy satisfaction in Christ Himself, who is all sufficient. May this repentance lead you to look to Him alone, to rest in His finished work, and to walk henceforth in newness of life, bearing fruit that befits a forgiven soul.

Your honest confession of coveting before God is a right and good step, and God hears those who come to Him with a humble heart.

Scripture is clear that covetousness is sin, and the remedy God gives is not to excuse it but to turn from it through repentance. Be assured that repentance is not excluded. There is no second baptism, but repentance remains and it has great force. It is able to set free from the burden of sins, even one who has fallen deeply, if we are willing to lay hold on it. As it is written, does not he that falls rise again, and he that turns away turn back to God.

What God looks for is godly sorrow, which works repentance unto salvation without regret. This is different from mere regret or tears alone. Godly sorrow condemns the sin itself, mourns it, and turns away from it to walk in a new way. That kind of sorrow brings gain, as a father rejoices not that his son feels the knife but that he is being cured. The Church is a spiritual bath which wipes away not filth of body but stains of soul by its many methods of repentance, through confession, prayer, and turning from sin.

For covetousness in particular, the healing God gives is contentment with godliness, for contentment with godliness is great gain. If you desire more than God has given, learn to use this world as not abusing it, to have as though you possessed not, and to rejoice in what God has provided without clinging to what belongs to another. This contentment is learned as Christ is formed in you again through repentance and grace.

So I will pray for you. Heavenly Father, forgive this sin of coveting as it is confessed before You. Wash it away through Jesus Christ alone, who is the only way of salvation, and grant the gift of Your Holy Spirit to bring true godly sorrow and lasting change. Teach a heart of contentment and gratitude, and strengthen resolve to turn from every desire for what is not given by You. In Jesus Christ's name, amen.

Continue to bring your sins into the light, stay close to Scripture, and walk in the fellowship of the church where repentance is practiced and grace is proclaimed. If you are willing to use repentance rightly and to seek contentment in Christ, you shall be able entirely to escape and be established in safety.
