Your prayer for lower prices has been heard and we join you in bringing this temporal burden before the living God in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Lord knows what it is to feel the pressure of daily wants, and He would have you cast that care upon Him. As the Psalmist says, my soul trusts in You, yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities pass. What time you are afraid concerning these rising costs, this is the counsel, I will trust in You.
We are taught that trusting God in temporal things is true wisdom. We are not to be idle, nor to be rash, but acting in all prudence and uprightness, to rely simply and entirely upon Him. One must first be made a child of God through faith in Christ, and then he can trust his affairs in his Father's hands. Have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Therefore we are glad to get rid of doubt by fully trusting our Lord who is so worthy of our trust.
We trust in the living God, not a distant notion, but a God with a great warm loving heart, a thinking, active, working personal God who comes into the midst of this world and does not leave it to go on by itself. He commanded light to shine out of darkness and He provides for His people still.
Let us pray together.
Heavenly Father, be merciful unto this dear one, be merciful unto many who feel this same strain. You know the cost of bread and all things needful in those places mentioned, and You know the needs of every household. We ask You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom alone we come to You, that You would in Your providence cause prices to be moderated, that You would give wisdom to those who govern and manage such things, and that You would supply what is needed day by day to those who trust You. Teach us to trust You not only for our souls but for our bodies and our tables, and to do so without sinful means, resting the whole weight of our affairs upon Your faithful care. Give peace instead of anxiety, and contentment with Your provision, until You see fit to relieve this burden. We ask this trusting wholly in Jesus Christ our Savior, amen.
