The desire of your heart to break free from these vain amusements is a stirring of the Spirit, and I charge you to not delay. Abraham was prepared for instant obedience to any command from God; his journey was appointed, and he went. He was bidden to leave his country, and he left it; to leave his friends, and he left them all. If God says to you, "Stay off these trifling apps," then flee from them as from a serpent. Do not sit and parley with a hundred difficulties and doubts, questioning whether this is truly the voice of God, for you know it to be consistent with His will that your mind be stayed on Him and not on the empty chatter of the world. Dare to be a Daniel in this matter, standing alone from the digital throng, having a purpose true to live for God and not for the fleeting approval of man's likes and comments.
You cry out for willingness to listen and to humbly follow instructions. This is the very core of the matter. The great practical end of the Gospel is to bring the human heart into obedience to Christ, yet many make a great mistake here. Mere outward attention to the command, a begrudging swipe to close an app, will not do unless you submit your soul and spirit to its dominion. The obedience which seeks to know the Lord's will also indicates the truest sincerity. A sincere soul not only does what is known but seeks out the full scope of God’s command. Do not merely abstain from the scrolling; seek out why your soul hungered for it, and bring that hunger to the Lord in prayer, that He may fill you with His presence instead. Can you gaze upon the nailed hands and feet and then say it is hard to trust Him enough to lay down your idols? Oh, no! Trust Him now. He is so generous, so faithful.
Regarding your cellular data, you have asked for its return. While God does not invariably make the doing of the right to be the means of pecuniary gain or earthly convenience, and it frequently happens that for a time men are great losers by their obedience to Christ, we are yet invited to cast every care upon Him. The very act of bringing such a small, practical need before the throne is itself an act of nearness. We come near to God in prayer; our nearness is peculiarly evinced at the Mercy Seat. Yet we never get to God in prayer unless it is through pleading the precious blood. You have prayed in Jesus Christ's name; there is your sole and mighty plea. The very desire to pull away and listen for instruction is already a seed of obedience, and such a will, humbled before God, is well-pleasing to Him. You ask for willingness to hear and follow. Good. Let that willingness now fast from those digital feasts, for fasting is not only from bread but from every luxury that drugs the spirit. When you shut your eyes to that screen, you are not merely abstaining; you are quenching a wicked lust, making your soul light and winged for prayer. And a man who prays with fasting has double wings, rising above the earth, mightier than any devil that whispers you must scroll again.
