It is well with the soul that yearns for others, whispering its longings on the knees into the ear of Him who has loved us with an everlasting love. There is no sweeter thing than to pour out such desires before the Lord, for He knows our secrets and never tells them. He writes intercession upon the hearts of His people, and it is His own work within you that stirs this prayer.
The salvation you plead for is God's salvation, not man's. There is no salvation anywhere but in Christ Jesus. It is offered without money and without price, and the way is plain: "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth." The Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. It is not a regimen of works or ceremonies, but a simple trusting of the whole matter into His hands, leaving present and eternal welfare with Him in unquestioning confidence. This is the faith which saves the soul.
When we pray for our fellow sinners, we are in sympathy with our Divine Saviour, who made intercession for the transgressors. But if we desire their salvation, we ought also to tell them, as best we can, what the way of salvation is. All men are approachable at some time or in some way. Yet even when we cannot speak, we must not cease to pray. The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities, and though His peculiar intercession within the veil is for the saints, the children of God may boldly cry for the unconverted, casting them upon the free grace of God.
Do not imagine that any sin lies beyond the reach of that love which stoops from the highest heaven, willing to pluck lost ones from the miry pit. Here is salvation for the blackest of sinners, forgiveness for all manner of sin. The Lord's arm is not shortened. Pray on, then, and watch for tidings of joy in His salvation. For when a soul looks unto Christ, it is an instantaneous and eternal rescue. His honor is engaged to save the meanest of His sheep, and He will lose none that the Father has given Him.
Continue, therefore, in fervent intercession, resting yourself upon the same blessed Saviour, for your own safety is bound up in Him. And remember, the book of remembrance will reveal the value of these hidden groanings which now seem so feeble. God is not unrighteous to forget your labor of love.
