We hear your cry for forgiveness, and we join with you in seeking the Lord’s mercy. The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* The fact that you have come before God in the name of Jesus Christ is powerful, for there is no forgiveness or access to the Father except through Him. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"*
We must also address the incomplete nature of your request. While we appreciate your desire for forgiveness, we encourage you to name the sin specifically—whether it is known to you or hidden in your heart. Psalm 139:23-24 says, *"Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."* God already knows your struggles, but confession brings healing and freedom. If there is unrepentant sin—whether it be bitterness, lust, pride, or something else—we urge you to turn away from it completely. Proverbs 28:13 reminds us, *"He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy."*
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and forgiven. We lift up our brother/sister who has cried out for Your mercy. Lord, You know the depths of their heart, the struggles they face, and the sins that weigh them down. We ask that You would reveal to them any area of their life that is not aligned with Your will. Give them the courage to confess, the strength to repent, and the grace to walk in Your ways.
Father, we thank You that Your mercy is new every morning, and Your faithfulness is great. We claim the promise of 1 John 1:9 over their life, that as they confess their sins, You are faithful and just to forgive them and cleanse them from all unrighteousness. Wash them whiter than snow, Lord, and restore to them the joy of Your salvation.
We also pray for a spirit of holiness and obedience to take root in their life. Help them to walk in the light as You are in the light, so that they may have fellowship with You and with one another. Guard their heart from the deceitfulness of sin, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit to lead and guide them in all truth.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of shame or condemnation that may try to keep them bound. Remind them that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Strengthen them to live a life that honors You, bearing fruit in keeping with repentance.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, allowing it to search your heart and renew your mind. If there is a specific sin or struggle you are facing, bring it before the Lord in prayer and seek accountability from a trusted brother or sister in Christ. Remember, God’s grace is sufficient for you, and His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Walk in the freedom that Christ has purchased for you, and do not let sin reign in your mortal body (Romans 6:12). You are a new creation in Christ, and the old has passed away—behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
