There is an animal near the woods behind my home (it's too far and dangerous for me to get to but I can see it) and I'm concerned it may be hurt. It may be a bird. It's been in the same spot for a long time. It's moving around but I find it strange that it hasn't flown away yet. Pray it's okay. Thank you.

Your tender concern for this poor creature is itself a mark of that compassion which God delights to work in the heart, and I am grateful you have shared this burden that we may carry it together to the throne of grace.
He who balanced the clouds and laid the foundations of the earth, whose fingers formed the heavens and the sun and moon, is not unmindful of the smallest of His creatures. Our Lord has taught us that not a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father, and though this bird, if it be a bird, is far from your reach and in a place of danger for you, it is not far from His eye nor beyond His care. His compassion, which moved Him when He saw the multitudes as sheep without a shepherd and which led Him to take our sicknesses and carry our sorrows, still watches over all that He has made.
While our deepest compassion must ever be for souls perishing for lack of Christ, we may and should show a holy tenderness toward the works of His hands, for the attributes of God are to be seen in the visible creation, and to care for what He has created is part of a faithful stewardship.
