My family have confliction with a new addition (dog) that has no temperance. Its prone to bite me an as of now only me(even though its rebellious to any and everyone especially its master (###) who constantly rebukes the animal. Much animosity has been developing over this what I believe to be a dog bred for attacking. IJN Amen

We join with you in prayer over this difficult situation in your household and we thank you for bringing it before the Lord in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We hear the strain this has placed on your family. A dog that lacks temperance and is prone to biting, even if it has only bitten you so far, creates fear and division in a home that God desires to be filled with peace. We understand your concern, especially when you believe this dog may have been bred for aggression, and we understand how animosity can quickly grow when one member is being hurt and another member who is the master of the animal seems unable to bring it under control.

Scripture reminds us that we have been given stewardship over the animals God has created. Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the livestock, and over all the earth Genesis 1:26. With that dominion comes responsibility. A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel Proverbs 12:10. This means the one who has taken ownership of this dog bears the primary responsibility before God and before the family to ensure the animal is properly controlled, trained, and not allowed to be a danger to others. Constantly rebuking the animal without consistent, wise discipline and training is not the biblical pattern of stewardship.

We also want to gently address the animosity that has been developing. It is understandable to feel angry and frustrated when you are being bitten and feel unsafe in your own home, yet we are called to guard our hearts against allowing anger to take root. Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath Ephesians 4:26. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. The conflict over this dog must not be allowed to divide your family.

We encourage you all to seek wisdom together and to act decisively for the safety of everyone in the home. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. In practical terms this means the master of the dog must take immediate steps to prevent any further biting, which may include secure containment, a muzzle when appropriate, obedience training with a reputable trainer, and counsel from a veterinarian to assess the dog's temperament. Love for family must come before affection for an animal, and if the dog remains a danger despite diligent effort, wisdom may require rehoming it to someone equipped to handle such a breed, rather than allowing harm to continue. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1, so we encourage you to speak to one another and to the dog's master with grace and truth, seeking unity rather than blame.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this family and this household to You. Lord, You see the conflict and the hurt and the fear that this dog has caused, and You see the bite wounds and the animosity that has grown. We ask for Your protection over each member of this family, that no further harm would come. Grant wisdom to the master of this dog to take full and godly responsibility, to provide proper discipline and training and boundaries, and to make hard but loving decisions if this animal cannot be made safe. Pour out Your peace upon this home, let the peace of God rule in your hearts Colossians 3:15, and help them to forgive one another and to speak with kindness and patience. Remove bitterness and bring reconciliation and unity. Guide them to handle this situation with both compassion for the animal and with proper care for the safety of people made in Your image. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We can hear how wearing this has become for you and your family. Being the one the dog bites, even while everyone else is also dealing with its rebellious behavior, would leave anyone feeling on edge at home. It makes sense that animosity has been building and that you are looking for relief.

One thing that often helps when a new pet is straining the whole household is to pause and make a clear plan together, rather than trying to correct the dog in the moment each time. It could help to sit down with your family when things are calm and agree on boundaries, like where the dog is allowed, how you will keep distance when you feel unsafe, and what you will do if biting happens again. Because bites can be serious, please have any bite checked by a medical professional. It is also wise to have the dog seen promptly by a veterinarian or a qualified trainer who can assess its temperament and guide you on safe next steps, including whether this home is the right fit for this dog.

Father, we lift this family to You and ask for wisdom and protection. Guard our friend from harm, calm the tension in the home, and lead everyone to wise decisions that bring safety and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request concerning the trial within your household has been laid before the Lord, and we have heard your burden regarding this new dog which lacks temperance and has shown a disposition to bite, bringing rebuke and animosity into the family.

We are reminded of the word, He maketh peace in thy borders. Peace at home is a precious mercy, and where strife enters, even through a creature under our care, it is right to seek the Lord for wisdom and for quietness of spirit. The household is to be a place of order and love, and every creature entrusted to us is to be governed with firmness, kindness and prudence, for the righteous man regardeth the life of his beast, yet he must also guard those who dwell under his roof.

There is need here for the patience of the Scriptures, that patience which is not the sullenness of a brute beast nor the hardness of the stoic, but the patience of a child who trusts his Father's love and waits upon His wisdom. Like Job and like David, we are called to bear trial without giving way to anger, and to look to the Lord to work all things for good. At the same time true patience does not neglect duty. An animal prone to bite and rebellious even to its master must be dealt with soberly, with proper restraint, training and boundaries, and with honest counsel whether such an animal, especially one bred for aggression, is fitting or safe to remain where it endangers any member of the home. To preserve peace and to protect each one from harm is not unkindness to the creature, but faithful stewardship.

May the Lord keep you in perfect peace as your mind is stayed upon Him, because you trust in Him. Cast this care upon Christ, who has borne our greater burdens and who gives rest to the troubled heart. Seek His face together as a family, that animosity may be put away and replaced by forbearance, clear counsel and unity of purpose. Let prayer be made at home, that the winds of the Holy Spirit may breathe peace over all within your borders.

O Lord our God, who makest peace in our borders and whose word runneth swiftly to succour thy people, look in mercy upon this household now tried by discord and fear. Give to the master of this animal wisdom and firmness, and to all the family patience and love, that anger and animosity may not take root. Keep this household from harm and from biting and from injury, and grant clear direction whether to correct, to restrain, or to place this creature elsewhere for the safety and peace of all. Let thy perfect peace rule in their hearts and in their home, and fill them with the finest of the wheat of thy comfort and provision. We ask this trusting alone in the merit and mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our peace. Amen.
