Anger

We hear your cry and we join with you in asking for God's strength to release this anger, and we are encouraged that you have come before Him in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.

We know how heavy anger can become when we carry it, and Scripture warns us of its danger if we hold onto it. We are told in Ephesians 4:26, Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and in Psalm 37:8, Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don’t fret, it leads only to evildoing. Anger itself can arise, but when we cling to it, nurture it, and let it take root, it becomes bitterness and wrath which does not honor God. James 1:19-20 reminds us, So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

God does not ask you to overcome this in your own strength. He invites you to lay it down and to be transformed by His Spirit. Colossians 3:8 says, But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. And Ephesians 4:31-32 calls us, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Letting go does not mean what hurt you did not matter, it means you are choosing to entrust justice and healing to God and to walk in the forgiveness you have received in Christ. Proverbs 16:32 teaches, He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city, and we know you can walk in that victory because Philippians 4:13 declares, I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the mighty name of Jesus. You see the anger that has weighed on this heart and the sincere desire to let it go. We ask You to pour out Your strength where there is weakness and Your peace where there has been turmoil. Help us to release every hurt, every offense, and every bitter thought into Your hands. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. Teach us to be slow to anger, to be tender hearted and forgiving as You in Christ have forgiven us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that self control and gentleness may grow in place of wrath. Heal the wounds beneath this anger and let Your love cast out all resentment. We trust that You are working all things for good and that You will complete the good work You have begun. We ask this in the high and holy name of Jesus, our strength and our redeemer, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring this struggle to the Lord daily in prayer, to confess the anger quickly when it rises, and to meditate on His Word so your mind is renewed. When anger stirs, pause to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you respond with grace rather than react in the flesh, and seek to forgive as you have been forgiven, keeping no record of wrongs. God is faithful and He will give you the strength to let go and to walk in His peace.

We appreciate you coming back and simply saying you still need God's strength to let go of anger. It takes honesty to keep asking when the feeling hasn't fully lifted, and we are glad you brought it to Him again in Jesus' name.

In our experience anger often lingers not because you haven't tried hard enough, but because there is still hurt underneath that hasn't had space to be grieved, and a part of us is still trying to control a person or outcome we cannot control. When that hurt sits without a way forward it can harden into resentment, and that weight ends up resting most heavily on the one carrying it. That doesn't mean the wrong didn't matter, only that God wants to free you from carrying it alone.

It can help to separate the decision from the feeling. You can make a quiet, deliberate decision before God to release the debt and to give up seeking to get even, even while the emotions are still unsettled. The feelings often change more slowly as you keep returning to that decision. When anger rises again, try pausing to name it honestly to God in a sentence or two and reminding yourself of the choice you have already made, instead of rehearsing the offense over again.

It also helps not to walk this out alone. Keep sharing this struggle with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can check in with you over time.

Father, we lift our brother to You and ask for Your strength where his own runs out. Give him grace to keep choosing release over resentment and to know Your nearness as You gently soften what is still raw. Keep shaping his heart and keep him close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Yes, Lord, we agree, Matt 18:19, and ask freedom from anger and replacement by the fruit of The Holy Spirit, Gal 5:22-23, for this one, in ourselves, in all in this one's region and ours, bring revival to us and through us to others, Matt 6:10, we thank You in advance, Mk 11:24, Heb 11:6, Phil 4:6-7 in Jesus' Name, Jn 14:13-14, Amen, 2 Cor 1:20.

Your honest confession concerning anger has been heard, and it is a gracious thing that you bring this burden to the Lord instead of holding it within your own heart.

There is forgiveness with Him, and there is strength with Him also. You do well to ask for His strength, for of yourself you cannot let this wrath go, but He can work in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure. The Scripture gives this good precept, let not the sun go down upon your wrath, and it is wisdom to seek reconciliation and release quickly, lest anger take root and become bitterness.

Consider the pattern set before us. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. His forgiveness toward us was most free, for we did nothing to merit it, and most complete, for He keeps no back reckonings and retains no reserves of anger. He forgave us for His own name's sake through the blood of His Son, and that forgiveness is a continuous and eternal act. When you stand at the foot of the cross and see what it cost Him to bear sin, and how freely He prayed even for His persecutors, Father forgive them for they know not what they do, you will see both the reason to forgive and the power to do so.

Go then straight to God through Jesus Christ His Son, for forgiveness is with Him in its immediate gift, ready to bestow. Confess the anger plainly, ask Him to cleanse it, and ask Him to fill you with that gentle spirit which rebukes not in wrath but loves even enemies. If you have been forgiven so great a debt, you may by His grace forgive as you have been forgiven.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, Thou with whom there is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, look upon this Thy servant who feels the weight of anger and longs to be free. Grant by Thy Spirit a softened heart, a quiet mind, and power to let wrath go. Apply the blood of Christ afresh, give completeness of pardon, and teach to forgive even as Christ has forgiven. Keep this soul from sinning against light and knowledge, and make Thy strength perfect in weakness. This we ask in the high and worthy name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who has obtained for us full and free forgiveness. Amen.
