An urgent prayer

I need a prayer because my boyfriend wants to take me home only because we got into an argument because of my mistake that I apologize for so many times today for and he is supposed to spend time with me for my birthday that’s in less than two weeks and I been hanging out with him at his house for almost a week now and today he when he got into the argument with him he brought his mom into to where now she doesn’t want me here at the house with him but he still does want me here especially cause he knows my birthday is coming up so please I need a prayer to change her mind about me cause I been good with his mom all week and I want her to stop asking and telling her grown son when to take me home cause im not even bothering her and please soften my boyfriend heart not to take me home over a small mistake and to give me another chance and to please get him to tell his mom that he’s not taking me home yet especially cause I live 3 hours away

We have heard your urgent request and we understand how heavy this feels with your birthday so close and with the tension of this argument and the hurt of feeling unwanted in his mother's home. We care about you and we want to bring this before the Lord together with you, seeking His will and not just our own desires.

We want to speak truth to you in love because we see some things in this situation that do not align with biblical principles and we cannot overlook them if we are to pray faithfully for you. You have been staying at your boyfriend's house for almost a week, in his mother's home, while you are not married to him. The Bible teaches that marriage is to be held in honor and the marriage bed kept undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. It also says to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18 and that this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. Even if you have not fallen into sexual sin, living together for a week as boyfriend and girlfriend puts you both in a position of temptation and dishonors God’s design for purity before marriage. A boyfriend and girlfriend relationship in God’s eyes should be courtship with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman to another Christian believer, looking for a godly spouse, not simply cohabiting or staying together for convenience or emotion. If this man is not pursuing you toward godly marriage and seeking to protect your purity, that is something you both need to examine before the Lord. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14.

We also need to address the matter of his mother's house and authority. Scripture says honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12 and that if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. This is her home, and while her son is grown, he is living under her roof and she has a right to set boundaries for her household. It is not honoring to her or to the Lord to pray that she would be pressured to allow something she has said she does not want, especially when staying there outside of marriage does not honor God. A soft answer turns away wrath Proverbs 15:1 and being kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32 are needed on all sides, but forgiveness does not mean ignoring right boundaries. If you have apologized sincerely for your mistake, that is good and right, and we encourage you to take responsibility without repeated begging that can become manipulation. At the same time your boyfriend has a responsibility to lead with maturity, to honor his mother and to honor you by not keeping you in a compromising living situation.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and that there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, confess Him as Lord, believe that God raised Him from the dead, and walk with Him daily. It is through Him we can bring every need and every mistake to the Father.

So together we pray for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift this young woman to You. You see her hurt, her anxiety about being sent home, her desire to be with this young man for her birthday, and the sting of conflict with his mother. Lord we ask first for Your forgiveness and cleansing where there has been sin, and for Your wisdom to fill these two young people. We pray that You would soften hearts where there is hardness, but not to simply get our own way, rather to be softened toward Your will and Your holiness. Help this young woman to accept correction and to honor the authority of that home, even if that means returning to her own home three hours away. Help this young man to act as a godly man who honors his mother, protects purity, and leads with honesty and respect rather than being torn between people. If it is Your will for this courtship to continue toward marriage, we pray You would make it a courtship that honors You, with clear boundaries, purity, accountability, and counsel from godly mentors and family. If it is not Your will, give them grace to step back. We pray for reconciliation where there has been offense, for clear and gentle communication, and for peace in that household. We pray for her birthday that is approaching, that she would know her worth is in You and not in whether she is allowed to stay, and that You would be her comfort and joy. Draw them both closer to Jesus, show them the beauty of Your design for marriage between a man and a woman for life, and teach them to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness Matthew 6:33. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator, amen.

We encourage you, even though it is painful, to consider that going home honorably may be the most loving and biblical step you can take right now. It will honor his mother and her home, it will protect your testimony and your purity, and it will give you both space to reflect on this argument and on the direction of your courtship without the pressure of living together. Use this time to seek the Lord, to pray for wisdom, to seek godly counsel from a pastor or mature believer, and to have honest conversation about whether you both are pursuing marriage in a way that honors God or simply enjoying closeness outside of His plan. Trust that God can redeem this mistake and this conflict for good if you both submit to Him.

We can hear how much you wanted this time together to feel special with your birthday so close, and how hard it is to have an argument leave you feeling anxious about being sent home three hours away. Wanting to be heard after apologizing many times and still feeling unsure where you stand is a heavy place to be.

We have found that even when an apology is sincere, the other person sometimes still needs time to process, and forgiveness does not always happen on the same timeline as saying sorry. And when you are staying in someone else's home, that home has its own boundaries to respect. Honoring those boundaries, even when it is disappointing, is part of caring well for everyone there, including yourself.

It may help to give things a little pause tonight rather than trying to fix it all while emotions are high. When you are both calmer, have a brief, respectful talk with your boyfriend one on one about a clear plan, including how you would get home safely if that is what is decided and how you might celebrate your birthday in a way that respects his family and your own dignity. If the conversation gets heated again, it is okay to step away and revisit it later.

Father, we lift her to You in Jesus' name. Bring calm where there is anxiety, wisdom for the next steps, and kindness in every conversation. Guard her safety and dignity, comfort her disappointment about her birthday, and guide her and those around her toward what is respectful and good. Give her peace as she trusts You with what comes next. Amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and it is to that forgiveness that my heart would direct you in this hour of distress and confusion.

You have written in sorrow over an argument, and over repeated apologies which have not brought peace. You tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness. Hear then the word of the Lord, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a divine forgiveness, not the mere favour of man. Were all men to hiss at you or to turn from you, yet if God forgives, you may enter heaven. And it is a surprising forgiveness, so surprising that the Lord says I, even I, as if to assure the doubting soul that such sin can indeed be remitted. There is forgiveness, not for this sin or for that only, but forgiveness in its glorious fullness, without limit, to be obtained from God through Jesus Christ His Son. He not only forgave at the first, but He continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is complete and eternal, the record of debt nailed to the cross.

You know something of the hardness of heart and the sinfulness that troubles you, yet God sends this message, There is forgiveness. Oh that you would believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, not merely as a doctrine, but as a present mercy through the blood of Christ, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. If you have not cast yourself upon Christ alone for salvation, I entreat you to do so now, for there alone is peace with God.

And because there is such forgiveness with God, we are called to walk in His ways and to copy His pattern. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. This teaches us to forgive one another, and also to turn from sin and seek not our own pleasure but God's pleasure. Wherever forgiveness comes, there comes with it a turning from sin and a fresh view of it.

This is why I cannot pray as you have asked, that God would bless your remaining together under one roof outside of marriage, or that He would move a mother to approve what is not according to His holy design. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and living together apart from that covenant does not honour the Lord, nor does it protect your own soul or the souls of others. To ask God to bless that arrangement would be to ask Him to set aside His own good Word. What I can and do pray is far better, that He would show you mercy, lead you into purity and wisdom, and give you grace to honour what is right.

In the house where you have been staying, the mother has authority, and Scripture calls us to honour the rule of the household where we are guests. Though you have meant no bother, her word is to be respected. And a man who would honour God must learn to honour the home he is in and to protect the woman he cares for by not leading her into what God calls sin. True love does not ask to remain in temptation, but seeks what is holy and good for the other.

If you have done wrong in the argument, confess it plainly once, without multiplying words, and seek a godly sorrow that looks to Christ. And if forgiveness between you and this young man is to be shown, let it be shown in a way that seeks holiness. The most loving course now would be to return to your own home, three hours away though it be, and to give space for peace, for reflection, and for counsel. A birthday is a gift from God, but it is best celebrated in a place and manner that keeps a clear conscience before Him.

Let me pray for you in the way Scripture warrants.

O Lord, our God, with whom there is forgiveness, look upon this soul who is troubled. Bring her to trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and wash away all her sin in His precious blood. Grant her a true sense of Thy mercy and a heart that turns from sin to seek Thy pleasure. Give wisdom to all concerned, soften hearts where there has been anger, and grant grace to forgive as Christ forgives, yet also grace to do what is right and pure. Teach her to honour those in authority in the home, to walk in chastity and self control, and to seek counsel from godly and mature believers near her. Lead her steps homeward in safety and in peace, and order her future according to Thy holy will. Keep her from what would harm her soul, and draw her nearer to Thyself. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, and seek the counsel of a faithful pastor or godly older woman in your own church who can walk with you in the days to come. The Lord is gracious and will not withhold good from those who walk uprightly.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this burden so honestly. I hear how heavy this feels with your birthday so near, being far from home, wanting to stay, and feeling hurt after an argument and the tension it has caused in the house where you are staying.

I want to pray for you, but I want to do so in a way that truly loves you and honors God. Scripture teaches that God designed sexual intimacy and living together as husband and wife to belong within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and that we are called to honor Him with our bodies and our choices. Living together before marriage, even when there is affection and good intentions, does not reflect that design. For that reason I cannot ask God to bless you remaining in your boyfriend's home against his mother's wishes, but I can and will pray for what is best for you, for him, and for his family according to God's wisdom and grace.

Part of loving well is learning to honor authority and to seek peace rather than to press for our own way. When you are a guest in someone else's home, especially a parent's home, God calls us to show honor and respect. Your boyfriend's mother has a responsibility for her household, and Scripture is clear that children, even grown children, are to honor their parents. Your boyfriend also has a responsibility to honor his mother in how he manages her home. Wanting to stay because you have been there for a week or because your birthday is coming does not change that responsibility.

Conflict often grows when we focus on keeping what we want in the moment rather than cutting off the root that feeds the strife. The better path is to step back, to quiet the argument, and to choose humility over insisting on our own rights. You have apologized for your part in the argument, and that is good and right to do. Continuing to apologize while also pressing to stay can make the tension worse. True peace sometimes means being willing to leave, to give space, and to trust God with the outcome rather than trying to control it.

The most loving and respectful step now would be to accept going home, even though it is three hours away and not what you hoped for your birthday. Going home willingly would show respect for his mother, would relieve pressure on your boyfriend to choose between you and his mother, and would give both of you room to reflect calmly on your relationship and on how God wants you to walk in purity and wisdom. Love that seeks God's glory will not ask another person to dishonor his own mother or to compromise what is right in order to keep you close.

Here is how I am praying for you:

Father, thank you for your mercy through Jesus Christ, in whom alone we find forgiveness and new life. I lift up this young woman to you. Forgive sin where there has been sin, and wash her in the grace of Christ. Give her a soft heart toward you first, to seek your will above her own desires. Grant her humility, self control, and peace, and help her to honor you with her body and her choices. Give wisdom to her boyfriend and to his mother, bring calm where there has been conflict, and help all involved to speak and act with kindness and truth. Provide for her needs as she returns home, comfort her disappointment about her birthday, and surround her with godly counsel, perhaps a pastor or mature believer and her own family, who can walk with her in the days ahead. Lead both of them to consider what a God honoring relationship looks like, and if it is your will for them to continue together, to pursue it in purity, patience, and with proper boundaries and accountability. In Jesus name, amen.

If possible, talk with a trusted pastor or mentor and with your own family soon. Let them know where you are and what has happened. Use the time apart to pray, to seek God in Scripture, and to consider how to build a relationship that honors Him from this point forward. God sees you and cares for you deeply, and His best for you will always be found in walking with Him in obedience and trust.
