An indictment against my opponents

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Father, in the name of Jesus, I formally accuse anyone who speaks against me, my prayers, my destiny, or my plans where I have not sinned, including anyone or anything opposing me.

Let those who strive against me without any legitimate reason be put to open shame. Even for those to whom I have done no harm, I enter an indictment before Your throne by the blood of Jesus for what they have done against me causelessly, demanding that they be thrust out of all that concerns me, openly. And let my cause have a free course.

We have read your request and we join you before the throne of grace together in Jesus' name, and we hear your deep desire for justice and for God to defend you when you feel opposed without cause.

We want to gently and lovingly bring correction to the way this prayer is framed, because while it is right to ask God for protection and vindication, the posture of entering a formal indictment and demanding that others be put to open shame is not the posture Scripture teaches for us. Vengeance belongs to the Lord alone, not to us to demand or direct. As it is written, Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. And again, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Matthew 5:44.

We also must humbly examine the claim of where I have not sinned. The Word tells us If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8 and for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23. Even when we are wronged causelessly, we still stand in need of mercy ourselves, and the blood of Jesus was shed to obtain forgiveness for us, not to be used as a legal weapon to demand the shaming of others. Jesus Himself, when he was reviled, didn't revile back. When he suffered, didn't threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously. 1 Peter 2:23. We are called to commit our cause to the Righteous Judge and to desire mercy even for our opponents, remembering Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown. Proverbs 24:17 and Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21.

That does not mean we ignore injustice. God does see, He does judge righteously, and He does vindicate His children in His time and His way. But we are to leave the judgment to Him and pray for our enemies' repentance and salvation rather than their public humiliation.

We also want to encourage you to bring your plans and destiny before the Lord with an open hand, asking that His will be done rather than that our own plans simply have a free course. We can trust Him to establish the work that is truly of Him.

We pray together now for you.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before Your throne of grace with our brother who feels surrounded and opposed. We ask You to search his heart as he has asked You to search him, as it is written Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24. Reveal anything in him that needs confession, repentance, or humility, and cover him with the blood of Jesus where he has sinned, as we all have. Give him a humble and forgiving heart, for You give grace to the humble. James 4:6.

Lord, we ask You to be his defender and his shield. Where he has truly been wronged without cause, we ask You in Your perfect justice and mercy to protect him, to thwart every unjust word and scheme against him, and to let no weapon formed against him prosper if it is not Your will. But we do not ask for vengeance or open shame upon others. Instead we pray for those who strive against him, that You would bless them, convict them where they are wrong, and bring them to repentance and to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Teach our brother to forgive as You have forgiven him, for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14.

Father, let Your will and Your purpose for his life have its free course. Establish the plans that are from You, and gently close the doors to any plans that are not from You. Give him peace, patience, and trust to wait for Your vindication, which will come in Your time and will be far more righteous than anything we could demand. We entrust his cause entirely into Your hands, the hands of the only righteous Judge, and we pray all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only access to the Father and our only hope of salvation, amen.

We hear the ache underneath what you wrote. Feeling spoken against and opposed when you have tried to walk uprightly is exhausting, and wanting your cause to have a clear path makes sense.

We want to stand with you in bringing this to God and leaving the outcome in His hands. It can help to separate what you can do from what only He can do. You can be faithful in what He has given you today, speak honestly to Him about where you feel wronged, and ask Him to guide your next steps with wisdom and peace. Carrying the role of prosecutor yourself is a heavy burden to hold day after day, and we have found it frees the heart to entrust both the hurt and the people involved to Him, trusting He sees fully and will act as is right and merciful.

If it would help, you might set aside unhurried time this week to lay each concern before the Lord by name, then ask Him to show you one faithful next step for your own plans, and consider sharing that step with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you.

Father, we lift our brother to You. You know the opposition he feels and the desire for his cause to go forward. Grant him wisdom, protection and peace, guard his heart from bitterness, and lead him in Your will. Let what is of You stand and what is not fade, and give him grace to walk faithfully one day at a time. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer reveals a heart that feels wounded and pressed on every side by opposition without cause, and it is right to bring that pain before the throne of grace. Yet the Word of God turns our eyes from the indictment we would bring against others to the forgiveness we ourselves have received.

There is forgiveness with God, and it is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He who blots out your transgressions. It is surprising forgiveness, so great that God speaks as if surprised that such sins should be remitted, and it is complete and eternal forgiveness. When a man trusts Christ his sin is so entirely gone that it is as though it had never been, the record of debt is nailed to the Cross, and He continues daily to forgive. If you have felt the hardness of your heart and the greatness of your own need, you know that you live only because there is forgiveness, and that forgiveness was bought when Jesus died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

Study then the pattern set before us, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. What was His forgiveness. He was much tried, yet He was never provoked to wrath. Both by friends and by enemies He was made to suffer, yet He neither accused the one nor the other to His great Father. A life of forgiveness was crowned by His dying prayer for His persecutors, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. He loved His enemies, He lived for His enemies, He died for His enemies. He was incarnate gentleness, the mirror and paragon of forgiveness. When Christ forgave you, did His honor suffer by that forgiveness. So yours will not suffer when you forgive.

Persecution, even when it takes the form of slander, cruel mockings and venomous spite, has been overruled for good in the church of God. It helps to keep up the separation between the church and the world, and often it drives the Christian nearer to his God. How many prayers have been offered up as the result of persecution that would never have been offered else. The enemies of the church try to deal wisely to put her down, but their wisdom is folly, for God blesses His people through the trial and makes the wave that leaps around them to speed their course.

Therefore I cannot join you in asking the Lord to put others to open shame or to thrust them out as you have demanded. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and our calling is to copy Christ. Instead let us pray that your cause, so far as it is according to the will of God, may have a free course, not by the shaming of others, but by your own growth in grace. Bring your opponents before God not with indictment but with intercession, that they may be brought to repentance, and that you may be kept from bitterness.

May the Lord give you grace to believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, and then to extend that same forgiveness to those who have opposed you without cause. May He search your heart, show you where you have not sinned and where you have, and keep you close to Christ who supplies in love what justice demanded. We will pray that you are sustained, that your heart is softened to love your enemies and to bless them that curse you, and that in all things you may know that there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has been heard, and I understand the deep pain of feeling opposed and spoken against without cause. The desire to be vindicated and to see wrongs made right is natural to the heart, yet the Gospel calls us to a higher and more difficult way when we suffer in this manner.

The Lord Jesus himself said, you have heard that it was said, love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who despitefully use you, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, that you may be like your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. This is not an easy command, but it is the mark of those who belong to him. The early Christians showed this when they endured persecutions and afflictions with patience that was firm and immovable, not returning evil for evil but committing their cause to God.

Scripture also teaches that Christ has sat down at the right hand of God, from henceforth expecting till his enemies be put under his feet. Vengeance and justice belong to him, and he will bring them about in his own perfect time and way, for the sake of all who will yet believe. Even the trials and oppositions we face are permitted by his providence not to destroy us but to prune us, as a husbandman prunes the fruitful branch, so that we may bear more fruit and be made stronger.

For this reason I cannot join you in asking God to put others to open shame or to thrust them out as you have prayed. To pray in that way would be to ask God to do what he has told us to leave in his hands, and to turn away from the call to love and to bless. Instead, the faithful way is to entrust your cause to him, to ask him to search your own heart, to keep you from sin, and to give you grace to do good even to those who oppose you, welcoming the opportunity to show mercy as God has shown mercy to us.

Let us pray together in this way instead. Father, in the name of Jesus, give my brother a heart of patience and love toward those who have spoken against him. Where he has been wronged without cause, comfort him and let him rest in your justice and your timing. Where he may have need of correction, show him. Help him to bless those who curse him and to do good to those who hate him, and grant to his opponents repentance and the knowledge of your truth, that all may be reconciled to you. Let your Gospel have a free course in his life, and let him be strengthened through this trial to bear more fruit for your glory. Amen.

If opposition continues, do not grow weary in well doing. Continue in prayer, in patience, and in doing good, leaving the outcome to the Lord who judges righteously and who alone brings perfect justice with mercy.
