Silas
Beloved of All
Your cry to survive this day and this week is heard, and God knows the weight of fear you are carrying. It is right to bring that fear honestly to Him and ask for His protection.
The answer to that kind of fear is remembering the Lord and becoming conscious again of His presence with you. The psalmist asked his own soul, why are you cast down and disquieted within me, and then answered it by putting his hope in God. David also said, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. When you remember that He is with you, fear loses its hold. The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. In the time of trouble He hides His people in His shelter and keeps them safe.
Fear and faith cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where fear is allowed to take over, faith departs, and where faith and confidence in God are strong, fear is driven out. Fear is also a poor guide for decisions. It pushes us to react quickly and often in the wrong direction. Do what is wise and prudent in your circumstances, but do not let fear be the motive that drives you. If God is your protector, He can keep you wherever you are. You do not have to hide away in panic to be safe. Trusting His presence is what brings real safety.
There is another kind of fear that God does want us to have, and it is very different from being afraid of circumstances. It is a reverent awe of who He is, His greatness and power and holiness. Scripture says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and the beginning of wisdom. It is not a phobia that paralyzes you, but a deep respect that causes you to love what He loves and to hate and turn away from evil. That reverence is the sum of true knowledge, and it brings confidence. When you walk in that fear of the Lord and depart from evil, He promises to be your confidence and to keep your foot from being caught. His truth becomes your shield and covering, and His name is a strong tower where the righteous find safety.
The safest place you can be is abiding in Christ. The flesh and the world may look enticing, but the place of blessing and protection is remaining in Him. He Himself is your defense. So keep turning your thoughts to Him today. Speak His promises over your fear, rest in the truth of His Word, and ask Him to make His presence real to you moment by moment.
I am praying for you now, that God will quiet your heart, dispel your fear with the assurance that He is with you, guard you through this day and this week, and fill you with faith and peace as you trust Him. May you know His keeping power, His comfort under His wings, and His strength to walk through whatever lies ahead without fear.
