Your prayer for safety both now and when you die has been heard with thanksgiving, and it expresses a deep and right desire that God would keep you and bring you to the better side.

God does hear those who call upon Him, and His answer to that longing is found in the cross. The cross saved and converted the world, drove away error and brought back truth. Because of it, death is no longer death but a sleep, and the devil is no longer terrible but contemptible. All that wars against us is cast to the ground through Christ.

Scripture speaks of so great a salvation. It is not only rescue from troubles in this life, but the dissolution of death, the destruction of the devil, the kingdom of heaven and everlasting life. Christ has opened a new and living way where the gates of heaven, once closed, are now opened for those who come to Him in faith. What was once a way of death leading to darkness has become a way of life that abides.

For this reason we are taught not to fear those who can harm the body but cannot harm the soul, but to have a holy reverence for God who holds both body and soul in His hands. To treasure His long suffering is to treasure not wrath but salvation, not death but life, not punishment but honor and a crown.

I pray that God will keep you in His care each day, that He will pierce your heart with His grace, plant His word deeply within you, and give you full assurance of hope. May you embrace the salvation offered through Jesus Christ alone, walk in faith and repentance, and come before Him with boldness. When the time comes to fall asleep in Christ, may you behold Him with joy and be counted worthy of His heavenly kingdom, where He will keep you safe forever.

May the Lord guard you, strengthen you, and grant you peace now and in the life to come. Amen.

Your prayer goes to the very heart of what every person needs most, to be kept safe not only in this life but beyond it, and to be on the right side of eternity when death comes.

The Bible speaks openly about the fear you mention. Apart from God, the fear of death holds people in bondage all their lives. Death in the biblical sense is not only the separation of the soul from the body, but separation from God, and its sting is sin. The power of sin is shown by God's law, which tells us we have all fallen short, and the wages of sin is death.

That is why God sent Jesus. He took on flesh and blood just as we have, and He humbled Himself to become a servant, obedient even to death on the cross. He was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for every person. He bore our sin and our separation from God in our place. Through His death He destroyed the one who had the power of death, that is the devil, and He broke the claim that death had over us because of sin. For those who belong to Him, the sting is removed.

Because of this, the child of God does not need to live in terror of death. The Scripture says, O death, where is your sting, O grave, where is your victory, and then gives thanks to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The path of every life will one day go through the valley of the shadow of death, but even there we can say, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. His presence is what takes away fear. The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. In the time of trouble He hides and keeps His own.

To be kept safe always, even when you die, and to be on the better side, is not something we earn by trying harder, praying longer, or doing more good works. Salvation is a gift of God by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not of works, so that no one can boast. The better side is to be with the Lord, forgiven and made righteous because Jesus has cleansed us and made us right before God.

If you have not already done so, you can put your trust fully in Jesus today, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and asking Him to be your Lord and Savior. That is how you can have full assurance, with no doubt, that you are secure in His arms now and forever, and that when you walk through that valley, He will be with you and will carry you home to be with Him.

I pray for you that God will quiet your fear with His presence, that you will know His keeping power every day, and that you will have deep and settled confidence that through faith in Jesus you have forgiveness, eternal life, and a safe home with Him beyond death. May the Lord be your light, your salvation, and your strength, and may you rest in the victory He has already won for you.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have continued to lift up your heartfelt request that God would keep you safe always, even when you die, and that when you leave this life He would bring you over to the better side to be with Him for eternity.

We have prayed that the Lord would give you His perfect peace and assurance of His eternal keeping and salvation through His Son. We are comforted by the promise in John 14:2 that our Lord has prepared a place for His own, and by the assurance in John 10:28 that no one can snatch His sheep out of His hand. We pray that you will know the hope of eternal life and the comfort of His presence both now and forever as you continue to seek Him.
