Your prayer reaches after the one thing needful, to be safe not only in life but in death and beyond it, and to find yourself on the better side when this fleeting life is over. This is a wise and weighty desire, for there is indeed a better side, and there is a dark side, and the face of Jesus Christ will be Heaven to those who trust Him and terror to those who do not.
Know this, that safety after death is not found in a wish alone, but in a Person. Salvation is of the Lord. The plan of salvation was devised by God alone, and the work of salvation was carried out by God alone, and the keeping of the soul unto the end is of the Lord alone. Grace is the fountainhead of it all. Whatever your sin may be, its greatness only serves to illustrate the greater grace of God, but that grace comes to us in one way only.
Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. This is the whole machinery of salvation in plain terms, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, Christ dying and Christ raised from the dead, and live. You need not mount to Heaven in rapture, nor dive to Hell in remorse. As you are, believe and live.
The better side of which you speak is not merely a place of rest, but a place of presence. It is the chief blessing of Heaven, the cream of Heaven, that the saints shall there see Jesus. To be safe forever is to be without fault before the Throne of God, rid of sin and brought near through His precious blood, made complete in Him. Heaven must be in us before we can be in Heaven, and that begins here, by trusting Christ and receiving Him as all your salvation and all your desire.
Today is the day of salvation. Do not wait to seek this safety. Come now to Jesus as a sinner and cast yourself upon His finished work upon the cross. Confess your need, ask for His mercy, and trust that He who was slain has redeemed by His blood all who believe on Him. If you so believe, you are saved, kept by His power in life, kept in the narrow stream of death, and welcomed to see His face with joy.
May the Lord lead you to this simple faith, that you may know you are safe in His hands always, and that when He calls you hence, you shall be found in Christ, to dwell where He is and to behold His glory forever.
