Yet let this sink into your heart: the anxiety that multiplies words may, if left to itself, unfit you to bear the very burdens you describe. The vessel that is tossed up and down by outward circumstances cannot steer aright. Cease from the fretfulness that rises and falls with every tide, and roll your whole load upon the Lord.
Remember, the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ, a child’s simple hymn, a whispered text, the Word heard in the Sunday school, carries healing virtue. Do you ask for your daughter’s safety, her husband’s salvation, unity in the home? Do you plead for your son’s troubled heart and weary spirit? Then bring them under the sound of the Gospel, for when Christ is teaching, the healing power is present. Faith comes by hearing. The Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings, and He does not merely point out the disease; He applies the remedy. Forgiveness and healing are one, when the Saviour says, “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee,” the palsy of the soul departs.
For the young single mother cowering under a cruel oppression, and for all mothers spent with holy labour, the Lord is the healer of the broken in heart. He bindeth up their wounds. He has an ear open to the cry of the destitute, and He will provide, rescue, and defend. The very impossibility of their case is but the platform for His delivering grace.
