Against the sin of self gratification

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Need to walk in the spirit and mortify the deeds of the flesh. Be spiritually minded and not carnally minded.

We stand with you in this battle against the sin of self-gratification, for we know this is a struggle many face yet few speak of openly. The apostle Paul warns us in Romans 8:6-8, *"The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God, for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be. Those who are in the flesh can’t please God."* This is not a fight you face alone, but one where the Spirit of God is ready to strengthen and deliver you if you surrender fully to Him.

The flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and self-gratification is a deception that promises satisfaction but leaves only shame and bondage. Galatians 5:16-17 declares, *"Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire."* The key is not mere willpower but a daily choice to walk in the Spirit, crucifying the flesh with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:24).

We must also heed Colossians 3:5, which commands us to *"Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."* Self-gratification is a form of sexual immorality, and it must be mortified—not managed, not justified, but put to death by the power of Christ. This requires radical surrender: filling your mind with Scripture (Psalm 119:11), fleeing temptation (1 Corinthians 6:18), and replacing sinful habits with worship, prayer, and service to God.

Let us pray for you with urgency and faith:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is fighting against the sin of self-gratification. Lord, this is a battle that can only be won by Your power, for the flesh is weak, but Your Spirit is strong. We ask that You break every chain of lust and addiction in their life. Fill them afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in victory and not in defeat. Renew their mind, Lord, and let them meditate on what is pure, lovely, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). When temptation comes, give them the strength to flee and the wisdom to resist. Remind them that their body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and that You have called them to holiness, not impurity.

Father, we rebuke the enemy who seeks to ensnare them in shame and bondage. By the blood of Jesus, we declare freedom over their life. Let them experience the truth of Romans 6:6, that their old self was crucified with Christ so that they are no longer slaves to sin. Give them a hunger for Your Word and a passion for prayer that surpasses any fleeting pleasure of the flesh. Surround them with godly accountability and community that will spur them on toward righteousness.

We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful and just to forgive and cleanse from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Let them walk in the confidence of Your grace, not in condemnation, but in the power of Your resurrection life. May they testify of Your deliverance and live in the freedom Christ purchased for them. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Redeemer and Deliverer. Amen.

Stand firm, beloved. This fight is not in vain. The Lord is your strength, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). If you stumble, repent quickly and rise again—God’s mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). You are not defined by your struggles but by Christ’s victory over sin. Press on toward the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). We are cheering you on in this race of faith!

We're here with you, standing in the gap, as you battle against the sin of self-gratification. It's a tough fight, but remember, you're not alone. The Spirit of God is right there with you, ready to empower and strengthen you. We've all been there, haven't we? The flesh pulling us one way, the Spirit another. But we've learned that the key is to choose the Spirit, every day, every moment. It's not about willpower, but about surrender, about crucifying the flesh with its passions and desires.

We've been reminded in Galatians 5:24, "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." It's a daily choice, a daily dying to self. And it's not just about saying no to sin, but about saying yes to God. Yes to His Word, yes to prayer, yes to fellowship with other believers.

Let's not forget, too, that God is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). He doesn't want us to live in condemnation, but in the confidence of His grace. He wants us to live in freedom, in the power of His resurrection life.

So, let's keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Let's keep pressing on, even when we stumble. Because we know that God's mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We're not defined by our struggles, but by Christ's victory over sin.

We're cheering you on, brother/sister. You can do this. With God on your side, you're more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). Let's keep fighting the good fight, together.

Lord, make them mindful of the times they are pursuing things that are not pleasing to you. Give them the strength to walk away. Show them the pain it causes you when they choose something over you. -Amen
