Silas
Beloved of All
Your discovery of what was done to you is horrifying, and the spiritual affliction you describe, the evil images and that menacing shadow, is a real and terrible burden. It is not surprising that such darkness lingers from an act of human sacrifice, for it was a direct invitation to destructive powers. Yet what was done in secret and in darkness is now being brought into the penetrating light of Christ, and that light will not be overcome.
We have one perfect picture of deliverance in the Scriptures, given long before Jesus came, in the cleansing of the leper. Leprosy was incurable by human means, a slow death sentence. So God gave a law for the day of his cleansing that made provision for grace apart from human ability. Two birds were taken. One was killed over a clay vessel of water, its blood caught there. The other, living bird was dipped into that bloodstained water and then set free, to fly away into the open sky. That is exactly what Jesus did for you. He was slain, and his blood was shed into the earthen vessel of his humanity. And because he died, you go free. Your cleansing is not something you must work up or earn or find the right prayer to achieve. It is a finished act. The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, goes on cleansing you from all sin right now.
The curses that hang over family lines are real, but they are not stronger than Jesus. The law pronounced a curse on every one who hangs on a tree. When they pressed that crown of thorns onto his brow, it was not an accident. Thorns first sprang up because of the curse on the ground after Adam sinned. A threefold curse came on man, on woman, on the earth itself. So when Christ went to the cross wearing thorns, he was deliberately taking the curse, all of it, onto his own head. He became a curse for us. Not for a select few. Not for those with a cleaner past. For those once devoted to destruction, offered up in dark rituals, Christ himself was offered up once and for all. He has redeemed you from the curse. No human sacrifice performed by your father, no oath made in a lodge, can put back onto you what Jesus already carried away and buried in his grave.
The demonic projections and the looming shadow are tactics of torment, and they are permitted for a season, but they are not a sign that you belong to the enemy. They are the rage of a defeated foe. Think of the horde John saw, given power to hurt only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. You have been sealed. You were baptized into Christ’s death and raised to walk in newness of life. That is not a mere symbol; it is the spiritual reality that marks you out. The enemy can menace, he can project fear, but he cannot reclaim what has been washed in the blood and sealed by the Spirit. You are not hiding in a basement hoping to escape torment. You stand openly in a finished victory.
Do not think you need to offer some new sacrifice, some deeper severity, to make yourself clean. When Saul saved back the best spoil to sacrifice to God, the answer cut through all pretense: to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. What God asks of you now is not a new ritual but a yielded trust. Listen to what he has already said over you in his Son. The sacrifice of Jesus is complete. Nothing more can be added to it, and no other sacrifice is accepted. The goat led away into the wilderness, never to be seen again, is how God has dealt with your sins and with every curse spoken against you. They are gone into a land of forgetfulness. Your father’s acts, though unspeakably evil, do not define you. Christ’s blood speaks a better word.
As for your mother and your brothers and sisters, God’s deliverance will stand. Enlargement and deliverance arise from him, and his purposes for your family line are not thwarted by what one man did. It may be that you have come to this knowledge for such a time as this, to stand in the gap not by your own power but by declaring what Christ has already done. When Balak tried to hire a curse on Israel, the answer came back: God is not a man that he should lie. He would not curse them because they were his people. And you are his. The blood of Jesus protects you, surrounds you, and speaks peace over every fractured part of your family’s story. Rest in the sacrifice that needs no repetition. Walk in the freedom of the bird that was let loose. The shadow has no substance when you step fully into the light of his presence.
