The evil your father committed is real, and its shadow feels long. Yet you are a Christian, baptized into the death and life of Christ. The blood of Jesus has spoken a word over you that drowns every other voice. When the Law demanded a curse for transgression, Christ became a curse for us, hanging on the tree, so that the curse of the Law might be broken. He did not take your father’s sin lightly, but He bore its full weight and exhausted its power. The enemy now projects horrors into your mind precisely because he is defeated. He has no more sacrifice to claim, for the one sacrifice has been offered once for all in blood. Your father’s dark altars are drowned in that flood.

Do not search for some hidden generational bond that Christ’s blood cannot reach. His sprinkling is not on doorposts of wood but on your soul. The Destroyer who once roamed in the night now sees that mark and passes over. You, your mother, your brothers and sisters, being baptized into His death, have put on Christ.
