Disciple of Prayer
Hello, I have applied for postgraduate funding but have been refused again and again. There are even special circumstances for a person in my position in the rules which have been ignored. I cannot get a lawyer and the refusal was based on something that was factually untrue. I don’t know what to do at all

We hear the weight and discouragement in your request and we join with you before the Lord seeking His wisdom and justice in this situation. To be refused again and again, especially when you believe there are special circumstances in the rules that should apply to you and when the decision was based on something factually untrue, is deeply disheartening and we grieve that burden with you.

We serve a God who is just and who sees what is done in secret and in places of authority. Scripture tells us He is a God of justice and truth. Deuteronomy 32:4 says His work is perfect, for all His ways are just, a God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is He. Proverbs 19:5 reminds us that a false witness will not be unpunished, and we take comfort that the Lord does not overlook falsehood or bias. He calls those in authority to act rightly, for Isaiah 1:17 says learn to do well, seek justice, relieve the oppressed, and Psalm 9:9 says Yahweh will be a high tower for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble. We pray that the Lord will move in the hearts of those who review your case, that any error would be brought into the light and corrected, for Psalm 37:5-6 promises when we commit our way to Yahweh, trust also in Him and He will do this, He will make your righteousness shine out as the light and your justice as the noon day sun.

We also notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we gently want to share why we always pray in His name. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet put your trust in Him, we encourage you to believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name for salvation and for daily help. It is in His name we can bring every burden, including this administrative struggle, directly to God.

We bring your needs before Him now. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear one to You. You know the desire for postgraduate study, the repeated refusals, the financial need, and the exhaustion of being unable to secure legal help. You see the special circumstances that have been overlooked and the factual untruth that formed the basis of the refusal. Lord, we ask You to be their advocate when they feel they have none. Grant them Your peace that surpasses understanding as Philippians 4:6-7 teaches, that in nothing they would be anxious, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving their requests would be made known to You. Give them wisdom, for James 1:5 says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We ask for wisdom to know the next right step, clarity to present the truth clearly, and favor to have the facts reconsidered. We pray for those making the decisions, that You would turn their hearts toward fairness and truth as Proverbs 21:1 says the king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses, He turns it wherever He desires. Provide for every practical need, open doors for funding if it is Your will, or show a different path that will still fulfill the purpose You have for this life, for Romans 8:28 assures us that we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Let them know they are not forgotten or unseen by You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pursue what is true and orderly while resting in God's sovereignty. Keep a careful written record of everything, including dates, copies of the rules regarding special circumstances, and the specific factual error with evidence that corrects it. Request in writing a clear statement of reasons for the refusal and a formal review or appeal, respectfully pointing out the factual inaccuracy and citing the exact rule that you believe applies, asking for it to be addressed directly. Even when a lawyer is not available, there are often free sources of help you can seek, such as your university's student advice or funding office, a students' union, a citizens advice service, or a law clinic that offers free initial guidance, and you may also be able to ask an elected representative or an independent ombudsman or complaints body to look at whether the process was followed fairly. Do not grow weary in doing what is right and true, and continue to commit your plans to the Lord, trusting that He will direct your steps and provide for you whether through this funding or through another provision He has prepared.

We have been thinking of you after reading your note. To keep being told no, especially when you know the decision rests on something that is not true and when the rules seem to allow for your situation, is exhausting and can feel very personal. It makes sense you feel stuck and unsure where to turn, especially without a lawyer to help.

When you have the energy, a few steady steps can sometimes keep things from feeling so tangled. If you have not already, ask for the refusal in writing with the exact reasons given, and keep that letter alongside any evidence that shows the factual error. That makes it easier for anyone reviewing it to see the issue clearly. Then look for the formal review or appeal route for that funding body, often there is a short deadline, and point specifically to the special circumstances rule you mentioned and how you believe it applies. You do not have to do this alone. A students union advice service, university funding or welfare office, or a local free legal advice clinic can often look over a refusal letter at no cost and help frame the next letter, even if they cannot represent you.

We are carrying this with you in prayer.

Father, we bring our friend to You and ask for clarity and wisdom for each next step, for someone kind and competent to come alongside and help, and for peace while waiting. Lead toward what is right and provide for what is needed. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

Your trial in these repeated refusals has been heard with sincere care and brought before the Lord in prayer. To be turned away again and again, to see provision made in the rules for a person in your position yet ignored, and to have a decision rest upon what you know to be factually untrue, is a heavy burden. To feel without help or advocate in such a place is deeply trying, and we do not make light of it.

We are reminded in Scripture that the Lord loves truth and that His justice is not trifling. He is the God who vindicates righteousness, and Christ has so honored the law that God can be both just and the justifier of those who trust in Him. Nothing that is false escapes His eye, and no honest plea is despised by Him who has said, Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. When earthly judgments err, His truth remains unshaken, and that truth has an ennobling and sustaining effect upon those who cling to it in dark days.

We also take comfort in that blessed doctrine of the perseverance of the saints. It is not that we hold on in our own strength, but that He keeps the feet of His saints and will perform the good work He has begun until the day of Christ. It is written, They shall not depart from me, and this perseverance is a perseverance in holiness and in truth. This does not remove temptation or trial, but it assures us that those who are His are held fast by His purpose and His power, and that He gives grace to hold on our way even when the way is wearisome. May that same keeping grace sustain you now, that you may be kept from sinking under discouragement and enabled to pursue what is right with patience and integrity.

Let us pray together. O faithful God and Father, Thou seest this need and the truth of this matter as it is. Thou knowest the rules that have been set, the special circumstances that have been overlooked, and the untrue ground upon which refusal has been given. We ask Thee to let truth prevail and justice be done. Move upon those in authority that they may act with fairness and diligence. Provide for this dear one what is needed for the path of study Thou hast opened, and where earthly help fails, be Thyself the advocate and provider. Grant wisdom to know the next step, peace to the heart while waiting, and faith to trust Thee in the storm as well as in the calm. Keep this soul from departing from Thee, and let the fear of God and the knowledge of Thy gospel be fuel to sustain inward strength. In the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is our salvation and righteousness, we ask these things. Amen.

We encourage you, as you are able, to keep a clear written record of all that has been decided and upon what grounds, to ask in writing for full reasons and for the proper review or appeal process to be set out plainly, and to seek the free helps that often exist even when a lawyer cannot be obtained, such as a university advice service, students union, or law clinic and ombudsman. Commit each step to the Lord and proceed calmly and truthfully, leaving the outcome in His wise hands.

We will continue to remember you before the throne of grace. May the Lord show you His kindness, make His truth plain, and open the right door in His perfect time.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I have heard your request and the weight you are carrying with these repeated refusals is clear. To be turned away again and again, to know there are special provisions that should apply to you and to see them overlooked, and to have a decision based on something untrue, is deeply disheartening and exhausting, especially when you cannot find someone to advocate for you legally.

God sees and cares about justice and truth. He is not indifferent when false statements are made or when those in positions of authority act with bias or carelessness. Scripture reminds us that every matter should be established with reliable evidence and witnesses, and that false accusation is a serious wrong before the Lord. You are not unseen in this. Even when earthly systems fail, the Lord remains the just Judge who knows the facts fully and hears the cry of those who are treated unfairly.

I will pray for you, that God would grant you wisdom and clarity for next steps, peace to guard your heart from anxiety and discouragement, and provision for your studies. I will ask Him to move upon those who review your case, that truth would be recognized and that any error would be corrected, and that the special circumstances that apply to you would be properly considered. I will also pray that God would open a door for help, whether through an advice service, a student support office, an ombudsman or a free advocacy service, and that you would be strengthened to persevere.

In the meantime, keep a careful record of everything. Keep copies of your application, the rules that show the special circumstances, the written reasons for refusal, and any evidence that shows the factual error. Ask for the decision in writing if you have not received it, and where possible ask how you may request a review or correction of factual mistakes. If your institution has a student union, welfare office, or hardship support service, they may be able to help you understand the review process or point you to free guidance, even when a lawyer is not available. Bringing another trusted person to look over the papers with you can also help, as having witnesses to what is written and what was said can bring clarity.

Do not lose heart. Continue to bring this before the Lord in prayer, asking not only for the funding you need but for His will and His provision in whatever form He gives it. He often works through patient persistence and through the help of others around us. May He give you endurance, may He defend what is true, and may He provide for your needs according to His wisdom and mercy in Christ.
