Admin interrupting the class

Anonymous

Beloved of All
The admin could have waited until the class was dismissed, he wasn’t any urgent issue, he still interrupted looking for picture of a student that has moved, I was busy looking for the picture and couldn’t find it and my class had to wait for me looking for the picture and he yelled at me looking the picture when all this could have been done after the class was dismissed because it was early dismissal day, or he could have emailed me ahead of time instead barging in to class or calling me during my instruction time, I couldn’t finish eating my lunch because I had to look the picture of student that has moved, it wasn’t any urgent matter, I see it as incompetence on admins part. The stress could have been avoided,

We hear your frustration and we join with you in bringing this situation before the Lord, for we know how disheartening it can be when our work is interrupted, our time is not respected, and we are spoken to harshly in front of those we are trying to serve. We understand the stress of having your instruction time and even your lunch taken up by a non urgent request that could have been handled by an email or after dismissal, and we grieve with you that you were yelled at while trying to help.

We want to gently and lovingly rebuke some of what we hear in your words, not to condemn you but to help you walk in a way that honors Christ and protects your own heart. When we label our authority as incompetent and hold onto anger about how we were treated, we open the door to bitterness. The Word tells us in Hebrews 12:15 to look carefully lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it. It also says in Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Even when an administrator acts unwisely or without consideration, we are still called to honor the position God has allowed. Romans 13:1 reminds us Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. This does not mean the behavior was right, but it does mean our response is to be governed by grace, not by resentment. Ephesians 4:29 also teaches us Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Calling the admin incompetent, even if you feel it is true, does not build up and can harden our own heart.

We encourage you to take this hurt to the Lord first, casting your anxiety on Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We also encourage you, when your heart is at peace, to go to your administrator privately and speak with a gentle answer, for Proverbs 15:1 says A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. You could share how the interruption affected your class and your ability to teach, and kindly suggest that in the future an email ahead of time or waiting until after dismissal would help you serve your students better. We are to do our work heartily as for the Lord, as Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, and that includes how we handle difficult moments with those over us.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to put your faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to come to God in His name, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this teacher to You and we ask You to wash away the stress, frustration and hurt from this day. Grant peace that surpasses understanding to guard the heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help us to release all bitterness and anger and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Give wisdom and grace to handle this relationship with the administration, and give words that are seasoned with grace and truth. We pray also for the administrator, that You would give him wisdom, consideration and kindness in how he leads and communicates, and that You would bless the school with unity and respect. Help us to remember that our ultimate service is to You, and to work heartily as for You. Restore joy in teaching and provide rest and refreshment where there has been weariness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

We can hear how frustrating and disrespectful that felt. You were trying to keep your class focused and teach well on an early dismissal day, you had not even been able to finish your lunch, and then to be interrupted for something that was not urgent, to have to search for a picture for a student who has already moved while your students waited, and then to be yelled at in front of them, it makes sense that the stress has stayed with you.

When we are put on the spot like that, especially when we know the request could have waited until after class or come in an email, it is hard to settle back down. Our bodies stay tense and alert, and missing that time to eat and reset only makes it harder to let go of the irritation.

When you have had a little time to rest, one thing that sometimes helps is a brief, calm follow up. You might consider sending a short, kind email noting that you want to protect instruction time and asking if nonurgent requests like this could be sent ahead by email or held until after dismissal. Keeping it factual and respectful can help keep the conversation steady. And today, if you can, give yourself a real break to finish a meal and breathe without rushing.

Father, we bring this teacher before You. You see the care they put into their classroom and how heavy today felt. Bring calm and rest after this stressful interruption, restore what was lost today, and give wisdom and grace for any next conversation with administration. Guard their classroom with peace in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your trial has been heard and brought before the Lord with sincere sympathy. To be interrupted in the faithful discharge of duty, to feel the pressure of hunger and haste while those committed to your care must wait, and to be pressed with urgency for that which was not urgent, is a true burden to the spirit, and it is right to bring it to Him who hears the sighing of the heart.

Scripture reminds us that patience is not learned without trial. You have heard of the patience of Job, and that patience was not the patience of a perfect man but of a man like ourselves, full of infirmity and greatly tried. Job could not have shown patience if he had not endured trial, and so the Lord permits these smaller trials to exercise us. There is also the patience which the Scriptures both inculcate and produce. As we feed upon the Word in meditation and prayer, that patience is reproduced in us, not the patience of a brute that cannot complain, nor of a stoic who will not feel, but the patience of a child who believes in his Father's love.

We are likewise taught what it is to be a man under authority. The centurion said, I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me, and our blessed Christ Himself came commissioned by the Father and lived under authority. This does not make every exercise of authority wise or timely, but it does remind us that we are placed under discipline as part of following Christ. When authority acts without due care, our calling remains to honor the order God has appointed, to possess our souls in patience, and to seek peace by a gentle word in due season rather than in the heat of the moment.

Look also to the patience of Christ, which far exceeds that of Job. Think of the patience of Nazareth and the carpenter's shop, to hold His tongue for thirty years, to be despised and rejected and yet to restrain omnipotence itself with almighty patience. As we look to Him we learn that God never appears more divine than when He divinely rules Himself, and we are directed to have our hearts led into the patience of Christ, so that we may suffer for His sake and not complain.

If in the stress of that hour impatience or hard thoughts toward another have risen, do not let guilt lie upon the conscience, but go at once to the Lord and confess it and ask pardon for Jesus sake. Then seek grace to act wisely hereafter. It may be well, when calmness has returned, to speak quietly with the one who interrupted you, or to write a brief and respectful note, asking that in future such requests might be sent beforehand or held until instruction is finished, so that the children lose nothing and peace is kept.

Let us pray together. O Father, give to Your servant a renewed measure of patience from Your Word and by Your Spirit. Calm the weariness and frustration of this day, provide rest and refreshment, and guard the tongue and heart from sin. Grant wisdom to those in authority, and help all to work together for the good of the children entrusted to them. Lead this dear teacher into the patience of Christ, and let the peace of Christ rule within. In the name of Jesus our Redeemer we ask it, Amen.
