We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in this battle against addiction. The chains of smoking and drinking kava have taken hold of your life, and we understand the struggle is real. But take heart, for the Word of God declares, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB).
First, we must address the foundation of our faith. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. Jesus is the only way to the Father, and it is through His name alone that we find true freedom and salvation. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
Now, let us come boldly before the throne of grace in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is bound by the chains of addiction. Lord, we know that You are a God who sets the captives free, and we ask that You break these chains that have taken hold of his life. Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We declare that he is no longer a slave to smoking and drinking kava, but a child of the Most High God, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
Lord, fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may have the strength and power to overcome this temptation. Grant him the wisdom to recognize the way of escape that You provide in every situation. Surround him with godly brothers and sisters who will support and encourage him in his walk with You. Help him to renew his mind with Your Word, that he may not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of his mind (Romans 12:2).
Father, we pray for healing in his body, mind, and spirit. Restore what has been broken and bring wholeness to every area of his life. Give him a hunger and thirst for righteousness, that he may seek You above all else. We pray that he will find his identity in Christ, knowing that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
Lord, we also pray for accountability. Bring people into his life who will walk alongside him, holding him up when he is weak and speaking truth in love. Help him to be honest about his struggles and to seek help when needed. We declare that he will not be ashamed, for You are his strength and his shield.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we command every spirit of addiction to leave his life now. We declare freedom, deliverance, and victory over smoking and drinking kava. We speak life, health, and wholeness into his body, mind, and spirit. Thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer and for setting our brother free. We give You all the glory, honor, and praise. Amen.
We encourage you to immerse yourself in the Word of God, for it is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Meditate on scriptures that speak of God's power to deliver and set free, such as Psalm 107:13-16, Isaiah 61:1, and Galatians 5:1. Find a local church or a group of believers who can support you in your journey to freedom. Remember, you are not alone in this battle. God is with you, and we are standing with you, believing for your complete deliverance.
Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Keep pressing forward, one day at a time, trusting in the Lord with all your heart and leaning not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). You are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you (Romans 8:37).

Your honest cry has been heard, and we take it before the throne of grace with you, for the Lord does not shut His ear to the humble penitent.
You describe yourself as one over whom habit has gotten power, where thirst follows drinking and drinking follows thirst, till you feel you cannot escape by your own power. This is indeed the pit of which we are told, but there is a deliverance which is the work of God alone. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and where we look for justification there must we also look for sanctification. You can do nothing of yourself, and to know it is itself a mercy, for then you will not share the honor of your deliverance with any other, but will willingly consent that He must bring you forth.
Take comfort in this word, the bruised reed shall He not break, and the smoking flax shall He not quench. You are as smoking flax, for there is a little living fire in you, else you would not have cried to God at all. The Spirit put it there. There is much smoke and little flame, and the savor is not sweet, but our Savior will not quench it. He will not put out that twinkling light. He will fan it till it burns more brightly. If He will not quench the smoking flax even when it is but dim, how much more will He cherish the smoking flax of a penitent who desires to be free.
God has found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it, and He has provided it in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rest your soul upon Him, for He makes deliverance effectual. When the lamb was slain, deliverance came, and He brings forth His people with a mighty hand.
We will pray for you.
O Lord our God, look with tender pity upon this soul who confesses that these habits have taken mastery. Thou hast seen the struggle and the failure, and Thou knowest how the soul would be free. We ask Thee to deliver from the power of darkness and to translate into the kingdom of Thy dear Son. Let the clock of mercy strike the hour of deliverance. Apply the ransom which Thou hast found, even the precious blood of Christ, to give both pardon and power. Quench not this smoking flax, but kindle it, that what is now but smoke may become a clear flame to Thy glory. Teach this dear one to set Caution and Self examination at the helm, to keep watch over the vineyard of his own heart, and to live near to Thee in daily dependence. Give strength to turn from that which ensnares, give grace to walk in soberness and self control, and give the comfort of knowing that Thou art He who brings forth. Keep this soul, we pray Thee, and let him yet live and declare the works of the Lord, giving Thee all the praise for great deliverance. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior we ask it, Amen.

Seek the fellowship of faithful believers who will walk with you and hold you accountable, flee from the occasions of temptation, and cry mightily to Him who is able to save. Thank you for sharing this struggle so honestly. We hear how heavy this has become and how out of control it feels to be bound to smoking and kava, and we are grateful you reached out for prayer and help.
We are praying for you, that God will give you strength to turn from what entangles you and to walk in freedom. The Scriptures call us to be sober and to practice self control, not in our own strength alone, but through the grace of Christ and the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in those who belong to Him. True freedom is found in Jesus Christ alone, who came to deliver us from sin and to make us children of God.
We pray that the Lord will grant you a deep desire for what is good and lasting, more than for what perishes, and that He will fill you with His power to say no to these cravings day by day. We pray that He will give you clarity of mind, steadiness of heart, and joy in pursuing what is right, not as a burden but as a new way of life. Thank you for sharing so honestly about this struggle. It takes humility to say it is getting out of control and to ask for prayer, and God hears that cry. Please know you are not pushed away from Him because of this habit. He loves you and wants to help you.
One of the heaviest burdens with smoking and drinking is the feeling that you cannot be a child of God while you are still bound by it. Many people have been taught that way, and when they could not quit in their own strength they walked away from the Lord, thinking they were disqualified. What you believe in that way can become your reality. But salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, not through first getting free from a habit. Trying to clean yourself up before you come to Him is putting the cart before the horse. You come to Him as you are, and He does the changing from the inside. Your standing with God does not rest on whether you have smoked today, it rests on what Jesus did for you on the cross, where He bore our sins in His own body that we might live unto righteousness.
At the same time, these desires of the flesh do war against the mind and bring bondage. The flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, and these two are contrary. The battle is really for the control of your mind and your life. The mind set on the flesh brings death and defeat, but the mind set on the Spirit brings life and peace. You have probably found what so many find, that trying harder in your own will power does not bring lasting freedom. There are countless self help formulas for how to be a better person, but they leave us saying with Paul in Romans chapter 7, O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me. That cry is actually the turning point, because it stops looking inward for another technique and looks outward for a deliverer. The answer is not a better plan for self improvement, it is the work of the Holy Spirit within.
I have known the shame of trying to control something in myself and failing again and again. Before I could even think I would react, then feel guilty and defeated, and plead with God for help. What I could not do for myself, the Spirit did when I finally came to the end of myself and yielded to Him. God respects the will He gave you, and He will not force you, but when you surrender and ask Him to take control, He can do what you cannot. The path Jesus calls us to is self denial and the cross, reckoning the old life to be crucified with Christ so that you are no longer ruled by the body of sin but by the new life of the Spirit. That is Romans chapter 8, victory through the Spirit.
Scripture gives a beautiful picture for someone whose fire has grown dim and is like a smoking flax. The Lord does not snuff out that smoldering wick. He puts fresh oil in the vessel and brings the flame back to brightness. He keeps your very breath and heartbeat going without your thought, because those muscles your life depends on He faithfully sustains. How much more will He care for your soul when you ask Him to rule over the parts of your life where you do have choice and where you have gotten into trouble.
So do not condemn yourself as hopeless, and do not try to hide this struggle. Bring it openly to Jesus today. Ask Him to forgive you, to be Lord of your life, and to fill you with His Spirit and give you a new mind. If you have faith, have it quietly before God, not to prove anything to others, but walking honestly with Him.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one who is struggling with smoking and with kava. You see the bondage and the desire to be free. Thank You that You save us by grace through faith in Jesus alone, and that You do not cast away a smoking flax. Forgive and cleanse through the blood of Christ, and pour out Your Holy Spirit to bring deliverance where self effort has failed. Take control of the mind and body, break the power of these cravings, and replace them with a hunger for You. Give life and peace and joy, and cause this life to be governed by Your Spirit day by day. Restore the flame and let it burn brightly for You. In Jesus name, Amen.

Ask Him to forgive you, to be Lord of your life, and to fill you with His Spirit and give you a new mind. If you have faith, have it quietly before God, not to prove anything to others, but walking honestly with Him.
Let me pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus I lift up this dear one who is struggling with smoking and with kava. You see the bondage and the desire to be free. Thank You that You save us by grace through faith in Jesus alone, and that You do not cast away a smoking flax. Forgive and cleanse through the blood of Christ, and pour out Your Holy Spirit to bring deliverance where self effort has failed. Take control of the mind and body, break the power of these cravings, and replace them with a hunger for You. Give life and peace and joy, and cause this life to be governed by Your Spirit day by day. Restore the flame and let it burn brightly for You. In Jesus name, Amen.
