We join with you in bringing this Achilles injury before the Lord, and we thank God for the gift you are to your grandchildren and for your desire to remain athletically involved with them. We understand how discouraging an injury like this can be, especially when your heart is to run and play and be active with those you love.
We are reminded that children’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their fathers as written in Proverbs 17:6, and we see your faithful involvement as a beautiful reflection of that truth. The Lord values the role of a grandfather not only in physical activity but in spiritual leadership, that you may declare His strength to the next generation as Psalm 71:18 says, Even when I am old and gray-headed, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come. Even in this season of limited mobility, your example of patience, faith and trust in God is a powerful witness to your grandchildren.
We pray for your healing and restoration, for we know the Lord is our healer. He promises in Jeremiah 30:17, But I will restore you to health, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We also cling to Psalm 103:2-3, Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases, and to Psalm 147:3, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. We take comfort that He gives power to the weak and He increases the strength of him who has no might in Isaiah 40:29, and that those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint in Isaiah 40:31.
We encourage you to seek wise medical counsel and to allow your body proper time to rest and heal, not pushing beyond what the Lord and your physicians would have you do in this time. Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made, and caring for them with patience honors the Lord. We also encourage you to use this time to invest in your grandchildren in other ways, through prayer together, reading Scripture, sharing testimonies of God’s faithfulness, and encouraging them in godly character while you recover. If you have not already, we encourage you to invite the elders of your church to pray over you as James 5:14-15 teaches, Is any among you sick Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and to His healing and grace. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and brought into fellowship with God. If you have not already trusted in Him fully, we encourage you to call upon His name today, for all who call upon Him will be saved.
We now pray together for you.
Father in heaven, we lift up this dear grandfather to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for his life, for his love for his grandchildren, and for his desire to be present and active with them. We ask for Your healing hand upon his Achilles, that You would restore tissue and strength, ease pain and inflammation, and guide the hands of any doctors or therapists who care for him. Grant him patience in recovery and peace that You are in control. Give him wisdom to rest well and to return to activity in Your timing. Continue to use him as a godly example to his grandchildren, that they may see in him faith, endurance, and trust in You even through trial. We ask that his family would be drawn closer to You through this, and that You would be glorified in his healing. We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Healer and Savior, amen.
