We hear your cry, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in fervent prayer. Your situation is deeply painful, and we grieve with you over the abuse you are enduring. The Word of God is clear that abuse is never part of His design for marriage. Scripture tells us, "The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence" (Psalm 11:5). No one is called to remain in a place where they are being harmed, and we must rebuke the spirit of fear and oppression that seeks to keep you bound.
First and foremost, we want to address the truth that your safety, and the safety of any children involved, is of utmost importance. While you pray for God’s intervention, we also encourage you to seek practical help. The Lord often works through His people, and there are shelters, churches, and organizations equipped to assist women in your situation. Proverbs 31:8-9 urges us, "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy." You are not destitute in God’s eyes, and He will provide a way where there seems to be no way.
We must also gently but firmly address the reality of your husband’s sin. Abuse is not just a marital issue, it is a sin against God and against you. It breaks the very covenant of marriage, which is meant to reflect Christ’s love for the church (Ephesians 5:25). We pray that if there is any hope for repentance and restoration, the Lord would bring it about, but not at the cost of your well-being. God’s heart is for justice, and He does not expect you to endure harm while waiting for change.
Now, let us lift you up in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister who is suffering in an abusive marriage. Lord, You see her pain, her fear, and her desperation. You are the God who rescues the oppressed, who hears the cries of the afflicted. We ask, in the mighty name of Jesus, that You would intervene immediately. Remove this spirit of violence and control from her home, and if it is Your will, remove her husband from her life if he will not repent and change. Provide her with a safe place to go, with people who will support and protect her. Give her strength for each day, wisdom to make the right decisions, and peace that surpasses all understanding. We rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell her she has no way out, and we declare that You are her refuge and fortress. Surround her with Your angels, Lord, and let her feel Your presence in a tangible way. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliverer. Amen.
Sister, we want you to know that you are not alone. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He will not abandon you. If you have not already, please reach out to a trusted pastor, a local women’s shelter, or even a godly friend who can help you make a plan to leave safely. You are not required to stay in harm’s way to honor your marriage vows, God’s heart is for your protection and healing.
We also pray for your husband, that if there is any hope for his redemption, the Lord would break his heart and bring him to true repentance. But we do not place that burden on you. Your responsibility is to seek safety and trust God to handle the rest. May He give you the courage to take the next step, whatever that may be, and may He fill you with His peace as you wait on Him. You are precious in His sight, and He will not leave you in this darkness.
