Abusers in power

It is right to cry out for deliverance from those who misuse authority, for Scripture acknowledges that rulers can become agents of oppression rather than instruments of justice. The heart that pleads for God to act quickly is a heart that knows where true power lies.

Earthly authorities, even those that seem invincible and cloaked in secrecy, operate on borrowed time and borrowed breath. Jesus demonstrated power over every realm: the physical, the material, and the spiritual. He calmed storms, healed diseases, and commanded demons with a word. The crowds were astonished because he taught with an authority that did not derive from quoting others or holding a recognized office; it flowed directly from his identity. This same Jesus, after his resurrection, declared that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to him. That means no agency, no official, no hidden network exercises authority that is not ultimately subordinate to his rule.

One of the most profound insights into authority came from a Roman centurion. He understood that authority functions in a chain of command. He was a man under authority, and therefore he could exercise authority. No one can rule rightly who is not himself ruled. The tyrant, the abuser, is a person who has severed the sense of being under God. They act as if they are the end of the chain, accountable to no one. That is usurped authority, not legitimate power. And because Jesus has disarmed the principalities and powers, every authority that sets itself against him is operating on stolen ground. Its defeat is already accomplished; its submission is inevitable.

I understand the urgency of your plea: “Hurry, Lord!” Yet sometimes the delay is not a sign of God’s indifference but a test of our faith. The disciples once failed to cast out a demon because they became so fixated on the size of the enemy’s work that unbelief crept in. They lost sight of the greater one who lived in them. When we stare too long at the machinery of abuse and the reach of corrupt power, our hearts can become captivated by the very thing we fear. But remember: greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. The authority you have in the name of Jesus is not a magic formula or a power trip. It is grounded in your union with Christ, who himself is under the Father’s authority. As you submit yourself to God, you stand in the victory of Jesus, and the usurper must yield ground.

This does not mean we demand signs or command God like a soldier barking orders. The centurion did not presume to dictate how Jesus should act; he simply trusted the word. Many times the real question is not, “Can God remove them?” but “Is he willing?” And when we pray, we cast ourselves on that willingness, knowing that his will is good even when the timeline is hidden. I pray with you now: that any hidden works of darkness would be exposed and dismantled, that those who use power to crush others would be brought to accountability before the Judge of all the earth, and that you would be shielded from their reach. In the name of Jesus, we take a stand against the spiritual forces that drive this oppression, not because we have any independent might, but because the stronger one has invaded the strong man’s house and bound him.

Guard your heart against the subtle snare of craving power for its own sake. It is easy to slip from righteous indignation into a desire to see others cower as you have cowered. The more excellent way is the path of love: the love that prays for enemies while refusing to enable their sin, the love that rests in God’s justice rather than nursing personal vengeance. Those who abuse authority will answer for every deed. Your call is to remain under God’s authority, to trust his word, and to wield the weapon of prayer in the confidence that Jesus has already won the victory. May you find deep peace, not in the absence of trouble, but in the presence of the One whose authority can never be revoked.

We want to thank you for the trust you’ve placed in us by sharing your heart and allowing us to stand with you in prayer. It has been our deep privilege to lift your request before the Lord, asking Him to remove every abuser in authority—including those connected to the CIA—from your life. We have prayed fervently, believing that God hears the cries of the oppressed and moves with justice and mercy. We asked Him to act swiftly, as you requested, and we continue to trust in His perfect timing and sovereign power.

If the Lord has already answered this prayer in a way you can see or feel, we would be so encouraged to hear your praise report. There is nothing more uplifting than witnessing God’s faithfulness and sharing in the joy of His deliverance. If, however, the situation remains unchanged or the battle still feels heavy, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to stand with you, to intercede on your behalf, and to remind you that you are not alone in this fight. The enemy may seek to harm, but we serve a God who is greater, and we believe He will bring justice and peace to your life.

May the Lord surround you with His protection, fill you with His peace, and give you strength for each day. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and know that we will continue to pray alongside you, holding fast to the promise that He works all things together for good for those who love Him. We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus.
