Above ground

We rejoice with you in gratitude for the breath of life and the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ by your side through every trial. Your acknowledgment of Him is a testament to the faith that sustains you, even in "light afflictions," as Scripture reminds us:

"For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:17-18 WEB)

These words are not meant to diminish the weight of your struggles but to remind us all that what we endure here is temporary, and our hope is anchored in eternity with Christ. We also take heart in knowing that Jesus Himself understands suffering, having walked this earth and endured far more than we ever will. He is not distant from your pain but near to you, interceding on your behalf (Hebrews 4:15).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the life You have given and the grace that sustains us. We thank You for the presence of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who walks beside us in every trial and affliction. Lord, we ask that You strengthen our dear brother/sister in their journey, reminding them that their struggles are temporary and their hope in You is eternal. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help them to fix their eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen, knowing that You are working all things together for their good. We pray for renewed strength, unwavering faith, and a deeper trust in Your promises. May they feel Your nearness and the comfort of Your Holy Spirit in every moment. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in His Word, for it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). In times of weariness, remember that those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31). You are not alone, and your faith in Jesus is a powerful testimony to His goodness and faithfulness.

If there are specific burdens weighing on your heart, we invite you to share them so we may lift them up together in prayer. The Lord hears the cries of His children, and He is faithful to answer. Keep pressing into Him, for He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

What a gift it is to read these words from you. In the middle of whatever these “light afflictions” are, you've planted your feet on solid ground. Above ground. Jesus beside you. That isn't a small thing, it's the kind of honest, anchored gratitude that keeps us steady when everything around us feels wobbly.

We know from our own lives that it takes real intention to look past the heavy stuff and name the good that's still there. Gratitude doesn't erase the aches or solve the chaos, but it does something almost physical: it loosens our grip on fear and lets us breathe again. You've named two realities at once, struggle and nearness. We're grateful you did.

We're not going to pile on with advice or push you to do more. Sometimes just staying in that space you've already found is enough. Keep giving voice to the “above ground” moments, however small they seem. Let them stack up in your heart. And keep talking to Jesus about what hurts, because He's already listening right there beside you.

We'd like to pray with you now.

Jesus, thank You that this friend is above ground today, breathing, and held in Your care. Thank You that You don't run from our struggles but draw close in them. We ask You to strengthen their body and their spirit in whatever ways they most need right now. Let Your presence be so real that fear loses its footing and hope keeps rising. In Your name we pray, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Our light affliction. This is a true saying, and you have touched it with your own tongue, giving thanks that you are above ground and that Jesus is by your side. Many a time affliction is light indeed when measured against the blessing we enjoy: your sins forgiven for Christ's sake, the full and free pardon that outweighs any earthly trial. And our affliction is light as we prove the power of the Lord's sustaining Grace.

Christ's Presence, if He would but come among us in the fullness of His strength, would do so much more for us than anything that we have ever seen. He began by showing Himself on the crest of the billow, and when the morning breaks by slow increase of light, so Jesus comes to His timid followers. They that "do business in great waters" know that our troubles are, at times, so pressing that we lose our heads, but nevertheless, this Truth of God stands sure, that Jesus is the "I AM." Passing through the sepulcher, its damp darkness shall flash and glow with unexpected joys because Jesus will be with us and, "the Lamb is the Light."

Christ is your Savior from beginning to end, so always regard Him in that light. And as your Savior, let it be very comforting to you to reflect that He is Divine. The most wonderful thing of all must be to be presented by Christ faultless before the presence of His glory. That is where the light is brightest and no speck of sin is to be seen. Many a time you have expressed your gratitude to a friend when he has said, "I will do so-and-so for you." You were sure that he would do what he said; his promise was enough for you.

If we need to evidence our gratitude to Christ we had better do it in tangible deeds. Did she not say to herself, "The Lord has served me; I will serve Him"? It never strikes an awakened person that mere words are a fit return for the Grace of God. Arise, and minister, you healed one. Some live in the presence of God, as they tell us, and are full of divine delights, but yet they are greatly afflicted with aches and pains, and all the dolors of rheumatism, and therefore they murmur. They know from Scripture that even their afflictions are working for their good, yet they do not rejoice in the prospect, or feel any gratitude for the refining process through which the Lord is passing them.

Yet there are still many sons and daughters of affliction and there are many trials and tribulations for each of us to pass through before we reach that land where sorrow is unknown. You are very near the Light of God. The great Physician will heal your broken heart before very long. Trust Him to do it now. When you have trusted in Him and your heart is healed, and you are happy, tell others about Him. Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God. He has promised that He will deliver you in six troubles and that in seven there shall no evil touch you, but He does not promise that either six or seven trials shall be kept from you. This is my comfort in my affliction.
