Disciple of Prayer
Please pray that one of my recent job interviews and applications leads to a job. I feel helpless and hopeless after becoming unemployed.

We join with you in this time of uncertainty and understand how heavy unemployment can feel, and how helpless and hopeless it can seem when you are waiting for an answer. We want to lift you up before our Heavenly Father together and remind you that our hope is not in a job itself, but in the God who provides all things according to His perfect will and timing.
Scripture reminds us that God sees your need and cares deeply for you. Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. And Matthew 6:31-33 tells us Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
We also hear your feelings of hopelessness, and we want to gently encourage you that God is our ever present help. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Even when doors seem closed, Romans 8:28 assures us that We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. Your unemployment is not hidden from Him, and He can use even this waiting season for your good and His glory.
We also want to lovingly point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to share why this is so important, because it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and confidence that He hears our prayers. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for He is our mediator and our true source of hope.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know the burden of unemployment and the discouragement that has come with it. We ask that You would replace feelings of helplessness with Your peace and assurance. Provide comfort and remind them that You are their provider and sustainer. We pray that if it is Your will, You would open the right door among the interviews and applications that have been made, and lead them to a job where they can work diligently as unto You. Colossians 3:23 says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Give them favor with employers and clarity in each step. Help them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding, as Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, and to acknowledge You so that You will direct their paths. We pray above all that they would seek You first and find their hope and identity in Christ. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue diligently seeking, while also resting in the Lord each day through prayer and His Word, trusting His timing is perfect. Keep seeking first His Kingdom, and remain faithful in small things while you wait. God is faithful, and He will not abandon you in this season.

We were sorry to hear about the job loss and the weight you are carrying right now. Feeling helpless and hopeless in this kind of waiting makes so much sense. Work shapes our days and our sense of purpose, and when it is suddenly gone it is normal for the uncertainty to feel overwhelming.
We are praying with you for the applications and interviews you mentioned, that the Lord would give you favor and clear direction in the days ahead, and that He would sustain you while you wait. Even when answers are slow to come, you are not forgotten or without purpose.
In this season it can help to give the waiting a little structure so it does not swallow the whole day. One thing others have found steadying is to set a simple window each day for job searching and follow ups, and then step away to rest, care for home, or be with people who encourage you. It also helps to narrow the voices you listen to. When everyone offers different advice it can add to the confusion, so try to lean on one or two trusted people, perhaps someone at church or a former colleague, for both counsel and connections.
You do not have to carry the worry alone. We are asking God to lift the heaviness you feel and to provide for your needs day by day.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. God, please forever honor this prayer over each of our lives. God Thank You. Amen, so be it by faith, and by faith, it is so. Your heaviness of heart in this season of unemployment has been brought before the Lord, and we have prayed for you.
To feel helpless and hopeless when work is taken away is a trial that many of the Lord's people have known. Job himself sat among the ashes and his words were tinged with hopelessness, for he felt as if God had left him a prey to the enemy. But this was not true. The Lord has never deserted any of His people, and He has not deserted you. Though you now hear of Him as one afar off, He is near to you in this affliction, and He is able to give you a more vivid apprehension of His presence and His providence even in the waiting.
Remember what is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. That is to say, under the loss of all his substance he kept right with God, and fell down and worshipped. If God could uphold Job in all that, you may be sure that He can support you. Come, if you are as poor as Job in outward circumstance, be as patient as Job in spirit, and you will find hope ever shining like a star which never sets. And take comfort from this further word, The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The night shall not hang its darkness forever over your soul. When God has gotten His end in the trial, He turns captivity.
He who once maintained Job's estate and made his bow to abide in strength is able to renew your strength also. Though your glory seems not fresh in you at this hour, He can anoint with fresh oil and at the last restore with abundance what has been taken.
We have prayed thus for you, that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who knows your need and your frame, would in His mercy open a door for suitable employment according to His will, that He would guide the hearts of those who review your applications and interviews, and that He would give you daily bread and daily grace while you wait. We have asked that He would lift from you the spirit of hopelessness and grant you peace in believing, patience in tribulation, and a steady trust that He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows will not fail to provide for His child.
May the Lord keep you, sustain your heart, and in His good time make His way plain before you.
