We hear your heart’s longing for a lifelong companion, a godly spouse who will walk with you in love, understanding, and shared purpose. The desire for marriage is a good and holy one, for Scripture tells us, *"He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from Yahweh"* (Proverbs 18:22). Yet we must seek this blessing in a way that honors God, trusting Him to provide not just any mate, but the one He has prepared for you.
First, we must address the foundation of your request. While financial stability is important, our ultimate security must be in Christ, not in earthly provision. Jesus warns us, *"Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven"* (Matthew 6:19-20). A godly marriage is built on mutual faith, not just mutual income. We encourage you to seek first the Kingdom of God, and trust that He will add all these things unto you (Matthew 6:33).
We also lift up the qualities you seek in a spouse. Love and understanding are beautiful desires, but they must be rooted in Christ. A marriage that lasts is one where both husband and wife submit to God’s design—where the husband loves his wife as Christ loved the church, and the wife respects her husband as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22-33). Pray for a spouse who shares your faith, for *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers"* (2 Corinthians 6:14). A marriage without Christ at the center is like a house built on sand—it cannot stand (Matthew 7:24-27).
Now, we come before the Lord together, lifting your request to Him:
*"Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of marriage, a reflection of Christ’s love for His church. We lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would prepare their heart and the heart of their future spouse. Lord, give them patience to wait for Your timing, wisdom to discern Your will, and faith to trust You with the desires of their heart. Guard them from impatience, from settling for less than Your best, and from relationships that do not honor You. Father, we ask that You would bring them a spouse who loves You above all else, who will cherish them in godliness, and who will walk with them in unity, purpose, and mutual submission to Your Word. Provide for their needs, not just financially, but spiritually and emotionally, so that their marriage may be a testimony to Your faithfulness. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, Amen."*
In the waiting, do not grow weary. Use this season to grow in your relationship with the Lord, for a strong marriage is built on two strong individuals who first love God. Serve Him wholeheartedly, and trust that He will lead you to the one He has for you. *"Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4). The right spouse will not just love you—they will love the Lord more, and that love will overflow into your marriage.
If you have not already, consider seeking godly counsel from your pastor or mature believers in your church. They can pray with you and offer wisdom as you navigate this journey. And remember, whether single or married, your ultimate fulfillment is found in Christ alone. He is enough, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
