A Love Lost

My parents are having major marital problems. They are literally on the verge of getting a divorce. They've been married for going on 32 years, and my Dad is head over heels in love with my Mom. He has never been abusive, cheated, gambled, and doesn't drink, yet her heart has grown cold for him. She loves him but says she does not love him the way he loves her. She has many demons she is dealing with relating to being abused as a child and has, for the entire duration of their marriage, bottled up emotion and feelings. Now she says she has nothing to give to him. My Dad is absolutely devastated. He, on several occasions in the past few days, made comments relating to not knowing what he will do to himself if she isn't with him. I'm afraid for his health, he's 52 and already is under doctor supervision. He cries everyday thinking he has done something wrong and says that he has failed their marriage. My Dad sent her a 3-page letter yesterday that addressed "healing the heart" and how they have many things to be thankful for. He asked me to read it and I was brought to tears by the emotion he conveyed.

I continue and have asked that others pray that God will fill my Mom and Dad with Christ's spirit and help heal her heart, give him the wisdom and strength to get through this difficult period and guide them to the love that they once had.

Holy God, Loving Father - what a beautiful prayer from a daughter who obviously loves her parents as You love us...unconditonally. I stand in the gap with her and ask that Your grace and mercy would fall upon these two hearts. Whatever the stronghold that is keeping this woman from a deep sense of love and connection to her husband be cast away by Your sovereign authority. Open the lines of communication between this couple, help them to be tolerant and tender, forgiving and merciful. Help them to rekindle what they once enjoyed in You. I praise You for Andrea's faith and diligence in praying for her parents and asking others to do so as well. May her faith and hope be rewarded in the reconciliation of her parents and family. With praise and thanks, I ask these things in the name of Jesus -thanking You for the blessings this family is receiving even as I pray. Amen.

Thank You everyone for your prayers.

This has been a very tumultuous week for our family; but I hold steadfast in my faith in the Holy Spirit and our Lord Jesus and lift my hands to God and tell Him everyday that I give my trust to Him and will continue to allow Him to guide me.

I told my Dad today that the love and belief in God's power and strength above all else will guide him through this period. But, much to my dismay, I feel that he is falling into a deeper and deeper depression.

He has started to make comments relating to "ending it" and "not having anything to live for without her" and I pray harder and harder yet.

I continue to reiterate God's love for him and how much he has to live for - his grandkids (my two children, ages 4 & 5) who absolutely adore him, my brother's wedding in September and the many, many adventures ahead.

I know there are demons that have gotten ahold of him that have made him feel this way, and pray that our Lord and Father help cast them far, far away.

Please help me help this beautiful and loving man, my Dad, who is an absolute God send to all who know him, and please continue to pray that God fill both my parent's with Christ's spirit in this time such that they can find themselves again, and find the love that they once had.
