We hear your heart in this request and we join you in wanting clarity, because uncertainty in matters of affection can be distracting and heavy on the mind. We understand the desire for a concise yes or a firm no, and even an honest not sure would feel better than being left to guess.
We want to gently encourage you to seek God's will in a biblical way. God does guide His children and He does answer prayer, but Scripture warns us not to put God to the test by demanding a sign on our terms. Gideon asked for a sign and God in His mercy answered, yet Jesus reminds us that we are to walk by faith and wisdom, not by demanding supernatural proof. What God promises is wisdom when we ask in faith and guidance when we trust Him. James 1:5 says, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And 1 John 5:14 says, This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
So we encourage you to ask God not only if this woman likes you, but whether this relationship would honor Him and lead toward a godly marriage. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman designed by God, and any courtship should be entered with that purpose in mind, seeking a spouse who is a Christian Believer, not simply a partner or girlfriend for companionship. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers. If this woman is not a follower of Christ, a clear answer from God would be to not pursue her romantically, no matter how strong the feelings. If she is a sister in Christ, then the clearest way God often reveals His will is not through a mystical feeling alone, but through prayer, peace, wise counsel, open and honorable communication, and observation of character over time. Proverbs 15:22 says, Where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in a multitude of counselors they are established.
Instead of waiting silently for a hidden sign, we encourage you to seek clarity in a godly and respectful way. Pray for her good and for God's will above your own desires, seek counsel from a mature believer or pastor who knows you both, and if appropriate, have an honest, kind, and concise conversation with her that honors her dignity and gives her freedom to answer clearly without pressure. True clarity often comes through respectful communication and through watching how God opens or closes doors, rather than through guessing at hints. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We also notice your request mentions God but not Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and assurance that He hears us. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name we can boldly bring every request, including this one, to the Father.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this brother to You. You know his heart, his hopes, and his desire for clarity. We ask first that You would be his greatest delight and that You would align his desires with Your will. Psalm 37:4 says, Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Grant him wisdom and discernment, guard him from anxiety and from reading too much into small things, and give him courage to act honorably. If a relationship with this woman would honor You and lead toward a Christ centered marriage, we ask You to make that clear through open doors, wise counsel, and clear and respectful communication. If it is not Your will, we ask You to give him a firm and peaceful no and to guard his heart from pursuing what is not best. If the answer is wait, give him patience and contentment to trust Your timing. Lead him to pursue purity and holiness in all his relationships and to seek a godly spouse in Your time. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking first His Kingdom. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Whether the answer is yes, no, or wait, God is faithful to guide you as you trust Him and walk in obedience.
