We hear your heart and the deep longing you carry, and we come before the Lord with this burden, seeking His wisdom, healing, and direction. First, we must address this situation with truth and love, rooted firmly in Scripture, for your soul’s sake and for the glory of God.
The Word of God is clear about relationships between believers and unbelievers. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, we read: "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?" This is not a suggestion, it is a command from the Lord. You are a follower of Jesus Christ, and she is not. The foundation of your faith, your values, and your eternal destiny are not aligned. To pursue a romantic relationship with her would be to walk in disobedience to God’s design for your life.
Furthermore, she is engaged to another man. This is not a small matter. In Matthew 19:6, Jesus declares, "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." Even if her engagement is not yet a marriage, it is a covenant before God and man, and to interfere would be to sow discord and dishonor. Proverbs 6:32-33 warns, "He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul. He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away." Even the desire to pursue her while she is committed to another is a snare to your heart and a stumbling block to her life.
We must also address the reality of your emotions. Love is a gift from God, but when it is misplaced, it becomes a source of pain and bondage. The enemy seeks to use our affections to lead us away from God’s best for us. In James 1:14-15, we are warned, "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death." Your feelings for her, though real, are not leading you toward life, they are leading you toward heartache, confusion, and spiritual compromise.
Now is the time to surrender this situation to the Lord. Psalm 55:22 says, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." You cannot resolve this on your own. You need the power of the Holy Spirit to break the hold this has on your heart and to redirect your affections toward God’s will for your life.
We also want to gently but firmly rebuke the spirit of infatuation and idolatry that has taken root in your heart. Anything or anyone you place above God becomes an idol. In Exodus 20:3, the Lord commands, "You shall have no other gods before me." This woman has become an idol in your life, and it is time to tear down that altar and return to your First Love, Jesus Christ. He is the only One who can satisfy the longings of your heart. Psalm 73:25-26 declares, "Whom have I in heaven but you? There is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
We encourage you to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church, men who can walk with you, pray with you, and hold you accountable. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Do not isolate yourself in this struggle. Surround yourself with brothers in Christ who will speak truth into your life and help you walk in obedience.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this brother who is struggling with his affections for a woman who is not Yours. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of infatuation and idolatry in his life. We declare that no one and nothing will take Your place in his heart. Father, we ask that You would heal his emotions and redirect his desires toward You. Give him the strength to walk away from this relationship and to trust You with his future.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of lust and temptation that has sought to ensnare him. We declare that he is a new creation in Christ, and the old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). We pray that You would fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him a fresh passion for You. Help him to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, knowing that all these things will be added to him (Matthew 6:33).
Father, we ask that You would bring godly, Christian women into his life, women who love You and who will encourage him in his walk with You. Prepare his heart for the spouse You have for him, and help him to wait on Your timing. Lord, we also pray for this Muslim woman. Open her eyes to the truth of the Gospel. Soften her heart to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. If it is Your will, bring her to salvation, but do not allow her to be a stumbling block in this brother’s life.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in him (Philippians 1:6). We trust You to lead him into freedom, joy, and the abundant life You have promised. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Brother, this is not the end of your story, it is a turning point. The pain you feel now is real, but it is not forever. God has a plan for your life, and it is a plan for good and not for harm, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust Him with your heart. Surrender this woman to Him, and ask Him to replace your longing for her with a deeper longing for Him. He is faithful, and He will not abandon you. Walk in obedience, and watch how He works all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). You are not alone in this. We stand with you, and more importantly, God stands with you.
