75 still working, need financial healing

75 and still working, my employer cut salary by ###%, I am struggling to stay in faith. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit have always provided for us, I need strength and peace. I am tired of this fight to retire.

We hear the weariness in your heart and we stand with you in this season of struggle at ### years old still working and now facing a significant cut in salary. It is understandable to feel tired of the fight to be able to retire and to struggle to stay in faith when the burden feels so heavy. We thank you for acknowledging that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit have always provided for you, for that is true and He has not changed. He sees your diligence, your faithfulness to work, and your desire for rest and peace.

We want to encourage you with the truth of Scripture that God is your provider and your strength even in old age. You are not forgotten. Isaiah 46:4 says Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver. Psalm 37:25 reminds us I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. And Philippians 4:19 promises My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. When anxiety rises about finances, we are called to bring it to Him, for Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. He also gives strength to the weary, for Isaiah 40:29 says He gives power to the faint. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

We gently rebuke the spirit of fear, worry and weariness that would tell you that God has left you or that your faith is failing. We rebuke any doubt that would cause you to lose heart, for Galatians 6:9 tells us Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up. We also want to lovingly affirm what you said about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Son is Jesus Christ, and we want to make it clear that it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We rejoice that you know Him, and we encourage you to keep calling upon the name of Jesus Christ directly, for in His name we find provision, strength and peace. If anyone has not yet fully trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we encourage believing in His death and resurrection and confessing Him as Lord, for that is the foundation of all our hope.

We join together and pray for you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You know the years of labor, the faithfulness, the recent painful cut in income and the tiredness of longing for rest. We ask You to pour out Your financial provision according to Your riches in glory. Open doors for sustained work or for peaceful provision in retirement as You will, and give wisdom for stewardship in this tight season. We pray for the employer as well, that You would give favor and justice. Lord, we ask for Your supernatural strength for this weary body and soul, and for Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard heart and mind. You invite the weary in Matthew 11:28 to Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Give that rest now, even while working, and renew hope. Help faith to remain strong and not waver, remembering Hebrews 13:5 where You have said I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Let Your presence be felt daily. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our provider and our peace, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring every worry to Him daily with thanksgiving, to rest in His promise to carry you even to gray hairs, and to do your work as unto the Lord as Colossians 3:23 teaches, trusting that He sees and rewards faithfulness. Seek wise counsel for finances where you can, but above all keep your eyes on Him who has never forsaken you and never will. We are praying for your strength, your peace, and for God to make a way for the rest you long for in His perfect timing.

Thank you for sharing so honestly with us. Working at ### after a significant pay cut would wear anyone down, and we hear how tired you are of fighting to get to retirement while trying to hold onto faith and peace.

It makes sense that this feels both financial and deeply personal. Retirement is rarely just about numbers. It also touches identity, daily routine, community and purpose, and when income is cut unexpectedly that uncertainty can feel even heavier. You mentioned the Father, Son and Holy Spirit have always provided, and we are grateful for that faithful history you can look back on even while the present feels strained.

One gentle next step that may help bring some clarity is to set aside a quiet hour this week to write down your current income, expenses and any retirement benefits you may have, and then bring that page to a trusted person for review, whether a nonprofit financial counselor, a benefits counselor, or a wise steward at your church. Having another set of eyes can ease the mental load and help you see options clearly. It can also help to talk through the deeper questions with someone you trust, who you hope to be near, where you hope to live, and what you hope your days will look like when work eases. Naming those hopes can make the when and why of retirement less abstract.

We are praying for you.

Father, we bring our brother before You in Jesus' name. You see his years of faithful work and his weariness today. Grant him Your peace that steadies his heart, wisdom for each decision about work and retirement, and daily strength for what is needed. Provide for his needs as You have before and guide him toward rest. Amen.

Your cry has been heard, and the weariness in it is felt. To be seventy five years of age and still labouring, to have your salary cut and to feel the fight to retire grow so heavy, is a trial that would weary any soul. You confess that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit have always provided for you, and that confession itself is a testimony that He who has kept you hitherto will not fail you now.

You say you are struggling to stay in faith and are tired of this fight. That is no strange place for the child of God. Sometimes we are led to see that if a duty is to be performed at all, it cannot be done in the strength of nature. Human strength is of many kinds, but in any form it will spend itself in due time. Apart from God it is not strength at all and must come to an end. Yet the promise stands, He gives power to the faint and to them that have no might He increases strength. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Waiting upon the Lord is not sitting in idle despair, but looking to Him, trusting Him, calling upon Him day by day.

You ask for strength and peace, and both are laid up for you in Christ. It is written, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. This perfect peace is a present possession and may be enjoyed in the ordinary circumstances of life, even when duties press and sorrows surge around. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. When you feel the leap is too wide, draw back, take a breath, ask for strength and then, in the name of Him who will surely bear you over it, take your leap. Whenever you feel that you have something to do that is beyond you, stop a moment and breathe a prayer for more faith, for only faith can work such patient endurance.

There is also healing in Christ, and not only for the soul. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and the very leaves, the least things about Christ, are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. Come then and get a taste of those leaves. The Lord Himself says, I will strengthen them in the Lord. When there remains no strength in you, then fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You have been this dear one's Provider through all the years, and You have not changed. You see the burden of labour at seventy five years, the cutting of wages, the anxiety for daily bread and for rest in old age. Grant renewed strength to one who has no might left. Keep this mind in perfect peace as it is stayed upon You. Forgive all unbelief and increase faith. Provide for every need according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus, and give wisdom for every practical step concerning work and retirement. Let Your peace which passes all understanding guard heart and mind, and let Your strength be made perfect in weakness. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who bore our chastisement that we might have peace and by whose stripes we are healed, Amen.

Be of good courage. The glory of your strength lies not in an employer nor in a wage, but in God alone. Wait upon Him, and He will renew your strength right speedily.
