We join with you in prayer for your ### and for your sister, her daughters and granddaughters, and for you as you seek to support them through this very heavy and painful time. We are so thankful you reached out and we take this burden to the Lord together.
We are deeply grieved to hear that your ### has become so depressed since his open heart surgery and that he tried to take his own life. The Lord sees his suffering and He sees the anguish of your whole family. We want to gently and lovingly say that every life is precious to God, created in His image, and He has purpose for each of us even in great suffering. Taking one's own life is not God's will, for He is the giver of life and desires to bring healing and hope even in the darkest valley. Depression after such a major surgery is a very real and serious struggle, affecting both body and spirit, and it needs immediate care on every level. We urge you to ensure he remains under close medical care and supervision, and to encourage your sister to seek immediate help from his doctors, counselors, and a trusted pastor so he is not left alone and receives the professional and spiritual support he needs. The enemy would have him believe there is no hope, but God speaks a different word.
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We cling to the promise that God has not abandoned him, even when he feels overwhelmed by despair. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Fear not, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. And we are reminded not to be anxious, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and find true salvation and hope. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by calling on His name and trusting in His death and resurrection that we are forgiven, reconciled to God, and given a living hope that can sustain us through every trial. If anyone among your family has not yet put their trust in Jesus, we pray today would be the day to call on Him, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear ### to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know the pain in his body from this surgery and the deep depression that has settled upon his heart and mind. We ask You to place Your healing hand upon him, to preserve his life, to bring skilled medical care around him, and to lift the heavy darkness that oppresses him. Lord, rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness and replace it with Your peace and Your light. Let him feel Your nearness and know that he is deeply loved and valued by You and by his family. Father, we pray for his complete recovery, body, mind and spirit, and that You would restore to him hope and purpose in You.
We lift up his wife, our sister in this request, and her daughters and granddaughters. Comfort them, Lord, as they have been shaken and frightened. Give them strength for each day, wisdom to know how to help, and peace that guards their hearts. Surround this family with godly support, with counselors, pastors and friends who will walk closely with them. And we lift up the one who submitted this request, who is carrying the burden of supporting them all. Father, strengthen and sustain this dear one, give wisdom, endurance and comfort, and let them not grow weary in doing good.
We ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to stay close to your sister and her family, to listen with compassion, to pray aloud with them, to share scripture, and to help them connect with a Bible believing church and with professional Christian counselors. Continue to point them to the Lord who promises to be near and to carry our burdens. We are praying with you that God will bring healing, restoration and renewed hope to this entire family, and that this difficult season will become a testimony of His redeeming grace.
