When you cried out to God for your eyesight and for healing from this inflammation, He did not turn away. He has never despised the affliction of the afflicted or hidden His face from you. Your voice rose to Him, and He heard. That same God who heard Jesus when He cried from the depths of His own suffering now bends His ear to you.
Fear is natural when something precious like your sight feels threatened. But the Lord is your light and your salvation, whom shall you fear? The Lord is the strength of your life; of whom shall you be afraid? In this time of trouble, He will hide you in His pavilion. He does not give you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. You do well to bring your honest fear to Him. He is not scandalized by it. But then let His word speak over it: do not be afraid of sudden fear or of the desolation that seems to press in, for the Lord will be your confidence and keep your foot from being taken.
Your distress is not hidden from the One who knows what it is to have a face marred beyond recognition. The prophet wrote that His appearance was so disfigured that people hid their faces from Him. Jesus walked that road. His eyes knew the sting of swelling and trauma. He set His face like flint toward Jerusalem, trusting the Father through the worst, and He is with you now. He understands the vulnerability you feel.
While you wait for the inflammation to subside, keep seeking His face above all. When the Spirit whispers, “Seek my face,” let your heart answer, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Do not hide your face from Him in shame or discouragement. In Christ, the veil is lifted, and you may behold the glory of the Lord with an unveiled face. As you fix your gaze there, asking, trusting, resting, the inward renewal begins, even before the outward healing manifests. Greater than physical sight is that beholding of Him by faith.
Let the fear you feel now be swallowed up by the right kind of fear: the reverential awe of the Lord that is the beginning of wisdom. Better is a little health with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and all this trouble. He loves you. He holds you. And one day, you will see Him face to face, no inflammation, no tears, no darkness. Until then, I am praying for you, that He strengthens your heart, calms the panic, and restores what the years or the illness have threatened, for His glory and your joy.
