The prayer for health and eyesight reaches the throne, for the Lord delights to hear the cries of His children. Yet let us never forget that all true healing flows from one sacred tree, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. Jesus Christ alone is that tree of life, and His leaves, the least things about Him, are charged with restoring virtue. Seek no other balm; there is but one great Physician, and He lays His hand upon the blind and the sick alike, granting sight to the eyes and wholeness to the frame. Bring your case simply to Him, as you would tell your symptoms to a doctor, and make Him your confidant. He hears the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
Remember always that the deepest sickness is sin, and the first healing is pardon. When He forgave the palsied man, He spoke wholeness into both soul and body. None of us can claim to be without spot, yet if we confess our uncleanness, His pardoning hand brings health. Cry, βSon of David, have mercy on me!β and He will touch your eyes, granting not only physical sight but that inward vision which perceives His beauty. The worldβs physicians are useful in their place, but the healing that comes from Calvary is a double cure, it purges the soul while it restores the body, when it pleases Him. Even if the answer tarries, His grace infuses a life within that will one day bloom into eternal health, where no inhabitant shall say, βI am sick.β
Take hold of this: there is healing in contact with Him. He took her by the hand, and the fever left her. He touched the blind manβs eyes, and sight returned. So by faith, reach out the trembling hand of your heart and grasp His pierced hand, and know that His health flows into you. Use every means of grace as a channel, the hearing of His Word is the appointed hour when healing power is often most present. Do not neglect the assembly where He teaches, for as the Word falls, faith arises, and with it, restoring light. But be heedful what you hear, lest error poison the soul. The pure gospel alone is medicine for the inner man.
I shall indeed lift your case before the throne, pleading the blood that heals. But you yourself, lie often at His feet in prayer, expecting that the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings. Whether He restore your eyesight now or grant you the patience to endure until the day when you see Him face to face, your health is secure in His covenant. Be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven, and the same voice that pardoned speaks wholeness to your mortal frame. We shall go up to Zion together with songs and everlasting joy upon our heads, when all sickness and dimness shall forever flee away.
