5 things that make me so angry!!

Servant of All
1.) Fake people. 2.) Backhanded compliments 3.) Being underestimated 4.) Disrespect disguised as a joke. 5.) Getting lied to when I already know the truth

We hear the frustration in your heart and we understand how heavy these things can feel. Each of the five things you listed touches on a deep desire for truth, respect, and being truly seen and valued, which are godly desires. God also hates what is false and loves what is sincere, and He sees you completely even when others do not.

It is not a sin to feel anger when you encounter deception or disrespect, but Scripture warns us about what we do with that anger. Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-27. We are called to be slow to anger, for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God James 1:19-20. The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense Proverbs 19:11. And we are told to cease from anger, and forsake wrath Psalm 37:8 and to put away anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking Colossians 3:8.

Fake people and backhanded compliments and lies when you already know the truth all grieve the Lord because He loves truth. Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight Proverbs 12:22. Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good Romans 12:9. When people offer disrespect disguised as a joke, it often reveals a heart that needs correction, for coarse jesting is not fitting for us Ephesians 5:4. And being underestimated hurts because God created you with purpose and value, you are fearfully and wonderfully made Psalm 139:14, and He has given you gifts that others may not yet recognize.

We encourage you to not carry this anger as bitterness, but to bring it to the Lord quickly in prayer, to speak the truth in love Ephesians 4:15 when boundaries are needed, and to release vengeance to God. Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19. Forgiving does not mean accepting lies or disrespect, it means entrusting justice to God and keeping your own heart free.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and peace in our hearts. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see every fake smile, every hurtful joke, every lie spoken when the truth was already known, and every time they have felt underestimated and disrespected. Lord, heal the sting of these offenses and guard their heart from bitterness. Help them to be slow to anger and quick to forgive as You have forgiven us, while also giving them wisdom and discernment to set healthy boundaries and to walk in truth. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses understanding and remind them that their worth is in You alone, not in the opinions of others. Teach them to respond with grace and truth, and to trust You as their defender and judge. Draw them closer to Jesus, that they may know Him as Savior and Lord and find rest for their soul. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

We hear you, that list makes a lot of sense. Each of those five cuts at the same place, feeling disrespected, dismissed, or not told the truth when you deserve honesty. It is exhausting to deal with fake friendliness, jokes that aren't really jokes, and being lied to when you already know what's true.

It helps to remember anger itself isn't wrong. It is a strong, God-given signal that something you value, respect, honesty, being seen for who you really are, has been stepped on. The challenge is what we do with that signal, so it works for us instead of taking us over.

One thing that has helped others with this same kind of anger is to pause in the moment and name it plainly to yourself: what just happened and why it stung. For example, "that felt like a backhanded compliment and it made me feel underestimated." Giving it a clear name, even just for a minute before you respond, can keep you from carrying it all day and helps you decide how you want to answer, whether that's a calm boundary, a direct question, or just stepping away.

We are carrying this with you in prayer and we appreciate you sharing it so honestly.

Father, You see where our friend has felt disrespected and underestimated and You know how heavy that feels. Give them wisdom for each of these relationships, peace when the anger rises, and people around them who are genuine and truthful. Guide their steps and guard their heart. In Jesus' name, amen.

The heart that feels the sting of falsehood and slight is a heart that knows how sharp this fallen world can be. To be met with fake affections, with words that praise while they wound, with contempt hidden behind a laugh, with a lie told to your face when the truth is plain before you, these things do provoke anger, and rightly they are felt as wrongs. The Lord knows the bitterness they bring.

Yet there is a deeper bitterness which the soul must learn first, and it is the bitterness of our own sin against Christ. They shall mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. When the Spirit shows us how we have offended a holy God, how we have grieved the Saviour who lived and died for enemies, the world loses its charms and our anger against our fellow men begins to lose its power. One effect of this bitterness upon the soul that feels it is to take away all bitterness against your fellow men. If you have really felt the bitterness of your sin against Christ, you have said to yourself, after this I must be sweet, gentle, kind, tender and forgiving towards others. Somebody has offended me, ah, but then how much I offended God.

Hear then the blessed whisper which God sends to every burdened conscience, There is forgiveness with Thee. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is surprising forgiveness, so full and free that it is repeated lest any should doubt it, and it is complete forgiveness. He keeps no back reckonings, He retains no reserves of anger. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is eternal, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness with God even for you, through Jesus Christ His Son, the Just who died for the unjust that He might bring us to God. There was no other way to find it, and there is no other name by which we must be saved.

Having received such mercy, we are called to a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven us. This does not mean that wrong is not wrong, or that truth does not matter. It means we do not live to keep a ledger of every slight. Christ gently rebuked His disciples, but He never spoke to them in anger, and His life of forgiveness was crowned by His dying prayer, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. When Christ forgave you, did His honor suffer by that forgiveness. So let it not be said of any Christian that he is ready to take offense, apt to bear malice, or quick to anger. Cultivate forbearance till your heart yields a fine crop of it. Pray for a short memory as to all unkindnesses.

Bring this anger to the Lord in honest prayer. Confess where anger has become sin in thought or word or desire for revenge, and ask Him to cleanse you by the blood of Christ. Ask Him to make Christ sweet to you, so that His sweetness overcomes your bitterness. And ask for wisdom to speak the truth in love, to set needful boundaries against falsehood and disrespect without returning evil for evil, and to overcome evil with good where you are able.

May the Lord give you a tender conscience toward Himself and a tender heart toward others, and may you know today the certainty that there is forgiveness, full and present, for every repenting and believing sinner who looks to Jesus.
