1 person against ten thousand people

The multitude pressed against you may seem as ten thousand, yet they are nothing before Him who sits at the right hand of God, expecting until His enemies be made His footstool. All who set themselves against the soul that trusts in Christ are not merely flesh and blood but share in the rebellion of the unseen adversaries. Their power is already broken by the one offering that perfected forever those being sanctified. Do not fix your gaze on their number, nor allow your mind to dwell on their designs, for to be carnally minded is death. That very brooding over injustice, the longing for their shame and disgrace, belongs to the pattern of thinking that breeds turmoil. Set your mind instead on the Spirit, and you will find life and peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding and guards your heart in Christ Jesus.

God does not need to be taught how to deal with those who trouble you. He judges the fatherless and does justice for the widow. He stands forward on behalf of those who are wronged. Yet He would have you seek mercy rather than vengeance. The reviler, the insolent man, mars the beauty of charity and drives away the very peace God desires. Do not let your heart imitate their enmity, for then they will have wounded you far more deeply than any external affliction could. Christ Himself left you an example: He made peace through His cross, reconciling things in heaven and things on earth, and now appears in the presence of God for us. Will you then join your own voice to that peace? Pray for those who persecute you, not that they fall, but that they may be turned from darkness and you may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.

Let goodness and mercy pursue you, yes, but pursue them first. Earnestly labor to become clean, to stand aloof from the bitter thoughts of this life, and you will find grace and mercy in Christ Jesus our Lord. The divine power that once unfolded the gospel in the ears of enemies is still able to keep you steady. Commend yourself to Him who is able to guard you from stumbling. The peace He gives is not the fragile truce of this world but a gift that fortifies the soul within, so that even surrounded by clamor you may know that He who is in you is greater than all who stand against you. Let this mind be in you, which is also yours in Christ Jesus, and the God of peace Himself will sanctify you wholly and bring your soul into a safe harbor that no adversary can touch.

The weight of so many against you is real, and the daily assault on your soul is exhausting. I hear the anguish, the desire for God to rise up and silence those who pursue you. That longing for deliverance is natural, and you are not wrong to cry out to the One who sees all.

Yet consider how often our hearts mirror an old pattern: we want mercy for ourselves, but judgment for those who wrong us. We ask God to be gracious to us, but swift to shame our enemies. The Scriptures declare that the Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. His mercy endures forever. He would much rather show mercy than condemn, and He extends a hand of kindness even to those far off, asking only that they turn.

Mercy and truth have met together in Jesus Christ. There, justice and peace kissed. Because of Him, God can have mercy on you without ignoring your sin, and you can have peace with God without paying its penalty yourself. That peace is not just a truce with heaven; it settles the war within your own heart. And from that inner rest, you can begin to sow peace instead of vengeance. The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

You may feel alone against ten thousand, but the Lord is not distant. He often uses persecution to draw His people nearer to Himself and to purify faith. The true church has always thrived under pressure, not because the pressure was removed, but because in it believers found their strength in God alone. He does not waste your suffering.

Rather than asking God to disgrace those who pursue you, entrust them to His perfect justice. He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy, He is sovereign. That same mercy you have received, you can hope for them. And for yourself, lay hold of the promise that goodness and mercy shall follow you. You do not need to fight for your own vindication. The Lord of peace Himself can give you peace always, by all means, and He is with you.

Receive this: grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace gives you what you do not deserve; mercy withholds what you do. Let that mercy quiet your cry for their disgrace and instead fill your prayer with confidence in the One who makes peace your border and surrounds you with songs of deliverance.

We want to thank you for the trust you placed in us to stand with you in prayer during this overwhelming and relentless battle. It has been on our hearts to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to be your shield and refuge as you face such great opposition. We have prayed that God would confound the plans of those who seek to harm you, that He would turn their hearts or remove their influence, and that His peace would guard your soul day and night.

If the Lord has moved in this situation—if you’ve seen His deliverance, protection, or a shift in the spiritual atmosphere—we would be so encouraged to hear your praise report. Your testimony could strengthen others who are facing similar struggles. On the other hand, if the battle still rages and it feels like the enemy’s attacks have not let up, please don’t hesitate to post this as a new request. We are here to continue interceding on your behalf, believing with you for God’s justice, mercy, and breakthrough.

Remember, the Lord is your strong tower, and He has not left you to fight alone. Even when it feels like one against ten thousand, He is fighting for you. May His goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life, and may you experience His presence in a fresh and powerful way as you press into Him. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
