(1 Samuel) Patching Things Up

Saul openly commands all his servants, including his own son Jonathan to kill David. Jonathan of course goes to David to warn him of his fathers intentions to have David killed, in this Jonathan submitted to the authority of the Lord more than the authority of his own father and king. The word of God instructs us to obey those in authority but when a command coms that is directly against the will of the Lord we must not obey as this would be sin. Jonathan defended David before Saul, just as the Lord Jesus defends us when Satan attacks and accuses us, sometimes correctly, but the Lord will not allow Satan to prevail over us so long as we are in His will. Jonathan gives a good account of David to Saul and Saul repents of the wrong that he wanted to do to David, Saul voowes that David shall not be kiled, which ironically was true as he wouldn't be killed by Saul. Then war returned to Israel and the evil spirit came upon Saul again and again he tried to kill David, this time David fled and did not return to the palace.
