David agrees, so Jonathan heads of to Sauls monthly metting for his leaders and David stays in hiding, as David is abscent the first day Saul presumes he is unclean and thus cannot attend the feast, but Jonathan informs Saul that David has gone to a feast at his families house. Then when David doesn't turn up the second day Saul is enraged and demands to know where David is that he might kill him. Jonathan at that point knows full well the intentions of Sauls heart towards David and so goes to warn David in the way they have devised. Jonathan heads out into the field with a boy to take some target practice, Jonathan told David that when he fires the arrows that if he instructs the boy that they are near then David is safe but if he instructs the boy that they are far then David must knowing that the Lord has sent him away.
