Did I Forgive My Spouse Too Soon?

The other day, I was doing an “Ask Me Anything” on the Marriage Helper Instagram and came across a question that really caused me to pause and wonder why the person was asking it. The question was:

“My husband and I are reconciling, and I’m wondering if I forgave him too soon?”

Now there’s a reason that this is really important. And there’s something very critical about forgiveness that you need to understand.

Dear God,

I come to You today and pray for marriages that are facing any kind of crisis. You know everyone’s situation well, so I ask that You intercede on behalf of husbands and wives. May You fill their hearts with courage, comfort, understanding and love. Please shed light on the different circumstances and remind everyone of the hope they have in You. Thank You for today. Thank You for my husband and the gift of life You have given. I praise You Lord for Your faithfulness, Your provision, Your grace, and Your unconditional love. I pray for wives all around the world and myself as well, that we would praise you in all circumstances. Dear Lord,

I come before You today with anguish in my heart. The prevalence of addiction is high. Marriages are falling apart, families are breaking-up, fear is oppressing, and faith is being thwarted. The war of addiction is so damaging, but I come before You today to stand in the gap for those in need.
