“Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. (Matthew 14:29,) It’s in the Unknown When Jesus came walking across the stormy sea in the darkness of night, Peter was the only disciple who had the courage to walk on the water to Him. One can imagine the other disciples saying, “It’s too dangerous! Don’t go!” But when Jesus told him to come, Peter stepped out into the unknown and walked on water. He didn’t let what was familiar and comfortable in his life keep him from getting out of the boat and becoming who he was created to be. You can’t play it safe your whole life and reach the fullness of your destiny. What God has in store for your future is going to boggle your mind—the...
Everything is exposed and lies open before the Lord.Luke 12: 1-3Jesus said first to his disciplines, " Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees- I mean their hypocrisy.Whatever is covered up will be uncovered , and every secret will be made known. So whatever you said in the dark will be heard in broad daylight , and whatever you have whispered in private in closed room will be shouted from the housetops. How terrible for you ,teachers of the Law and Pharisees! You hypocrites! You clean the outside of your cup and plate, while the inside is full of what you have obtained by violence and selfishness.Blind Pharisee! .Clean what is inside the cup first , and then the outside will be clean too! How terrible for you, teachers of the...
"...Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) Lay Aside the Weights Sometimes it’s as though we’re carrying all these heavy bags around—a bag of guilt, another bag with all the mistakes we’ve made, then we add on a bag full of regrets. We go through life carrying around all of these bags, then we wonder why life is a struggle, why we’re tired, why we can’t accomplish a dream. It’s because you weren’t created to live with guilt, condemnation, and shame. The Scripture tells us to “lay aside the weights that can easily entangle us.” It’s time to lay aside those weights of guilt and shame and regret. It’s time to get rid of that baggage. This is a new day...
Sometimes there's a balancing act. We're told the tongue is evil, and cannot be controlled. We're also told lying is a sin, and someone who praises something someone does that they think is wrong, would they be being a "phony", which is like lying? Like, I've heard people praise others, and in their praise I don't see it matching their actions. And I may try to "ignore" it, but if they go on and on, and I know otherwise, why be a phony and "pretend" to agree, to be "at peace". The Bible says, "IF POSSIBLE, be at peace with all men." But should we compromise our principles to be "tactful?" Like an example that reminded me of this, and prompted me to post this...in the book of Hebrews, we read what earns people a mention in the "Faith...
I recently had an encounter that reminded me of a past similar experience. As I sat in a Houston area park, on a mid September day in 2016, I was taken aback by an assault levied on me, by a four year old. I know, right?! I had to laugh at that one myself. Walking with her mother, who also had an infant in tow, was a little girl seemingly reluctant to follow her mother's instructions. I initially took notice of the child because she kept saying "No;" not at all unusual behavior for a child her age; yet, diversionary, non the less. Suddenly, the little girl picked up a handful of rocks, ran toward me, then with all her little four year old might, hurled them at me. Uninjured, as most of the rocks fell to the ground before reaching...
