Bible Verse for Today

I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

—Psalm 145:1-2 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The way we praise God forever and honor our pledge to give him glory for all the days of our life is pretty simple: we start by doing it today. As long as we praise God today, the forever takes care of itself! So as we commit to exalt the name of God and praise him for all...

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

—James 4:14-15 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"If the Lord wills!" Do you do short-term and long-range planning? I do. But my planning always has an invisible asterisk: "If Lord, this is your will and timing, please help me complete these plans." I don't know about you, but God has shown me time and again that if I am open...

Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.

—Psalm 144:4 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Time is so precious — time with our families, children, parents, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. How do you invest your time? Where do you invest it? You know, our time is really more valuable than the money we invest. Once the present time and its opportunities are gone, they can't be reclaimed. So as you begin each day, ask God that you will be able...

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of ###.

—Amos 5:15 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

While we rightfully teach our children that we must not hate others, we also must teach them to loathe injustice, evil, prejudice, and the mistreatment of the vulnerable — the foreigner, widow, fatherless, and poor, as God defined them in the Torah. Amos reminded Israel that God...

Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

—Colossians 2:17 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

In the world of mysterious religious ideas, Paul reminded the Colossian Christians that while the shiny religions around them and the particular practices of those religions might feel like a more spiritual lifestyle, these religions are only a shadow of what God offers us in Jesus. In Jesus, we have reality: spiritual reality and human reality. God became one...

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

—Colossians 2:6 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"New and improved!" That's the strategic marketing tag to re-introduce an older product that has fallen out of public perception. Make a few changes, freshen the packaging, and re-market the old product as something new and improved. The apostle Paul wanted the Colossians to know that Jesus does not need to be updated or add some spiritually new...

The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.

—Psalm 50:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Some speak of Mother Nature, but the Scripture tells of The Mighty One, God the LORD, who controls our universe and sustains our world. He speaks, and they do his bidding. This is the LORD who listens to our prayers and who acts for our well-being. He is the God who sustained his people and sent Jesus to fulfill...

Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.

—Psalm 143:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Some days are just very tough! Those we care about are hurting. Our plans are falling apart. Our prayers fell like BBs shot into a metal-walled room. They ricochet off the walls and ceiling only to fall at our feet and trip us up when we try to move out of our box full of worthless-feeling prayers. We cry out to God —...

Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

—Amos 5:14 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

What are you seeking to gain out of today? Do you seek good? Or will you pursue evil? Sure, we often don't call what we do evil, but isn't that what evil does? Nursing a grudge, spreading some gossip, or feeding a lust is evil, isn't it? God longs to be with us. He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. But...

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.

—1 Peter 2:11 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

This world is not our destination. This world is not our home. This world is the place of our journey! Many things here can distract us from our goal and destroy our desire to complete our journey. These kinds of distracting and sinful desires are actually at war with us. However, through the power of the Holy Spirit...
