Your honesty in sharing this struggle is received with care and prayer. What you described, feeling worthless and outrun, facing unanswered prayer and not sensing the presence of the Holy Spirit while you are in rehab, unable to train and uncertain about the future, is a heavy burden. Wanting to stay optimistic after years that feel lost and asking for Jesus to set you free and to train you as you are is a good and humble prayer, and asking that it be at His discretion honors Him.

Scripture gives a different measure than feelings. If you have truly trusted Jesus and confess Him as Lord, that confession itself is only possible because the Holy Spirit is already at work in you. The Bible teaches that everyone who belongs to Christ has His Spirit dwelling within. Your body is made to be a temple of the Holy Spirit, which you have received from God. That means even when you cannot feel Him, you are not abandoned or empty. Feelings rise and fall, especially in a hard season like rehab, but His indwelling does not depend on feeling. The Father delights to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him, so keep asking simply and honestly for His filling and leading.

You also mentioned feeling worthless and wondering if your prayers are heard. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. When God looks at you in Christ, He sees you as holy and without blame because the righteousness of Christ has been credited to you through faith. You are not your own. You were bought with a price, redeemed from an old life of destruction and set apart for His use. That price declares your value to Him, even when you feel worthless.

You spoke of wanting Jesus to be your conqueror and to make you free beyond the binds of this fallen world. The Bible speaks of a new law at work, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, which frees us from the law of sin and death. It is the greater power expelling the lesser. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you and will give life even to your mortal body. This does not always mean immediate outward change, but it means you have a new life. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away and all is made new. God gathers all things together in Christ, both in heaven and on earth, so your life, your past years, your present limitations and your future are all being bound up in Him and His purpose.

In this season when you cannot train as you once did, God is still training you. One of the prayers in Scripture is that according to the riches of His glory you would be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may settle down and make Himself at home in your heart through faith. That inner strengthening is real training. It is the Holy Spirit conforming you to the image of Jesus, teaching you the way of righteousness and truth, and learning to walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. He has placed each member in the body as He has pleased and gives gifts as He wills, so your place and your future are not forgotten or wasted, even when you cannot see the next step.

He is also able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His presence with great joy. You do not have to live as a captive to your flesh or to old patterns. Even while you still live in this body, you can begin to experience victory because you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if His Spirit dwells in you.

I am praying for you in the way you asked, at Jesus discretion and according to His perfect will. I pray that the Father, according to His glorious riches, would strengthen you in your inner being by His Spirit, that Christ would be fully at home in your heart through faith, that you would know with assurance that you are not condemned but bought, cleansed and made new, that the power that raised Christ would renew you day by day, and that you would be led and taught by the Spirit step by step. May you experience true freedom, not only one day beyond this world but also now as you walk with Him, and may His will be done in your life on earth as it is in heaven.

May the Lord grant you peace in this waiting, hope for what is ahead, and a quiet confidence that He who began this work in you will be faithful to complete it.
