WORRIED DUE TO DISHONEST COMPANIES

Leah B.

Servant of All
Two thieves in one week! In the first instance, I don't care to go into detail. Please pray in Jesus's name that I am able to effectively stop this company from making fraudulent charges and without any further problems. In the second case, it's about Comenity Bank. Never heard of them until I opened up an Ulta Beauty credit card to get a discount on makeup when I went shopping with my friend on her birthday a few weeks ago. Now for what happened: First I got a letter from Comenity telling me I didn't qualify for a "lower interest rate" on my account in spite of the fact that my score is in the "very good" range. The reasons they gave were LAME. A few days later, I got the card in the mail. My last name is misspelled. More germane here, I found out that the interest is close to 27%. I almost gagged on my tea I was drinking when I read that. But to move on: I called Comenity and got the name issue straightened out [hopefully]. Got them to send me a new card with the correct spelling. You would think, "So far, so good" -- But NO. When I voiced my concerns over the whopping interest rates and asked the guy if they would actually lower them in the promised six-to-twelve months, he hung up on me! I immediately called back. I next got a woman who verified the new card is coming and so forth. Then when I asked her my questions about interest, she was courteous but really didn't know anything. She did point out if I pay on time, I won't be charged interest. I already knew that, but it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing. It is also the fact that I just lowered my credit rating by applying for a credit card I now will NEVER use that I really didn't need to begin with. But to move on, this just gets worse: I started to read up on this bank. Turns out they have a 1.0 rating. They have multiple, multiple BBB complaints and have been fined numerous times. Most concerning here, it seems they have a penchant for deliberately not processing payments so they can turn around and charge you late fees. If they do this to me, they will destroy my beautiful credit rating! Anyway, what I did was immediately pay off the 62 bucks I owe them. This payment was a month-and-a-half early. I have the record of payment and noted that they did in fact change the spelling of my name. I ask that you pray in Jesus's name that: 1. I get that new card in the mail soon. 2. They process my payment within the promised two days and do not pull their "late fee" scam on me. 3. I handle canceling this card at the exact right time. One concern I have is that canceling the card will put yet another ding in my credit rating. Another is that they will sneak in late fees or damage my credit rating in some way if I cancel. I know that sounds paranoid, but you would be thinking the same thing if you read all these horror stories. I am so tired of being lied to and ripped off. From what I can see, these people are predatory lenders. I don't understand how in spite of fines, class action lawsuits and complaints to state's attorneys general as well as on the federal level, they don't just get shut down. Anyway, thank you for praying 🙏. Imagine: All this hassle and worry because I wanted to save twenty bucks on a Clinique blusher and a tube of lipstick!

We understand your frustration and anger over the dishonesty and predatory practices you’ve encountered, and we join you in seeking God’s justice and protection in this situation. It is right to feel outraged when faced with deceit, especially from those who exploit others for financial gain. The Bible speaks clearly about such matters, warning that the Lord detests dishonest scales and deceitful practices. Proverbs 11:1 declares, *"The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him."* And Proverbs 20:10 says, *"Differing weights and differing measures—both of them are detestable to the Lord."* These companies are not just harming you financially; they are engaging in practices that God Himself finds abominable.

We also want to encourage you to remember that while these earthly battles are frustrating, our ultimate trust must be in the Lord, who sees all and will bring justice in His timing. Psalm 37:5-6 reminds us, *"Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will bring out your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun."* Though it may feel like these companies are getting away with their schemes, God is not blind to their actions. Hebrews 4:13 tells us, *"There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account."*

Now, let us address the specifics of your request. First, we praise God that you have already taken wise steps by paying off the balance early and documenting everything. This is both prudent and responsible. As for canceling the card, we encourage you to seek the Lord’s timing in this. Proverbs 3:5-6 advises, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* It may be wise to wait until the new card arrives and ensure the payment is fully processed before canceling, but pray for discernment on the exact timing. If canceling affects your credit score, remember that God is your provider, and He can restore what has been taken or damaged. Philippians 4:19 assures us, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."*

As for the spiritual aspect of this battle, we must recognize that behind these corrupt systems are spiritual forces of wickedness. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This is not just a financial issue; it is a spiritual battle. We must put on the full armor of God and stand firm in prayer, knowing that our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

We also want to gently remind you that while saving money is good stewardship, we must be cautious about the motives behind our purchases. 1 Timothy 6:10 warns, *"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows."* This doesn’t mean it’s wrong to want to save money, but it’s worth reflecting on whether our desires—even for things like makeup—align with God’s priorities for us. Are we seeking first His kingdom, or are we being drawn into the consumerism and materialism of this world? Matthew 6:33 tells us, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* Let this situation be a reminder to evaluate where our treasures truly lie.

Now, let us pray together over these matters:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is weary from the dishonesty and greed she has encountered. Lord, You are a God of justice, and You see the wicked schemes of these companies. We ask that You intervene supernaturally in this situation. Father, expose every hidden fraud and thwart every plan to exploit or harm her. Let no weapon formed against her prosper, and let every tongue that rises against her in judgment be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).

Lord, we pray specifically that the new card with the correct spelling arrives swiftly and without delay. We ask that her payment be processed accurately and within the promised timeframe, with no "late fee" scams or hidden charges. Give her wisdom, Father, on the exact right time to cancel this card so that her credit is not unnecessarily harmed. If there are any dings to her credit score, we pray for Your restoration and favor. You are the God who redeems and makes all things new.

We also pray for protection over her finances and her peace of mind. Lord, guard her heart from anxiety and frustration. Remind her that You are her Provider and Protector, and that no scheme of man can prevail against Your will for her life. Give her discernment in future financial decisions, that she may walk in wisdom and stewardship, always seeking Your kingdom first.

Father, we rebuke the spiritual forces of greed and deception at work in these companies. We bind every evil plan and loose Your holy angels to war against these principalities in the heavenly realms. Let these companies be exposed, Lord, and bring them to justice. If it is Your will, shut down their predatory practices and protect others from their schemes.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You use this situation to draw our sister closer to You. Open her eyes to any areas where her priorities or desires may not align with Your will. Help her to seek You above all else, trusting that You will supply all her needs according to Your riches in glory.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayers. We trust in Your power and Your goodness, knowing that You are faithful to act on behalf of Your children. May Your will be done in this situation, and may You be glorified through it all. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
